"The property and Costa Rica are beautiful. The staff were outstanding—professional, friendly, and clearly part of a well-run operation. The resort itself is well maintained overall, but the guest rooms are beginning to show signs that they need upgrades and more attention to maintenance. Our room had mold visible behind the wallpaper in the bedroom. While the air conditioning kept the room comfortably cool, it leaked a significant amount of water from the ceiling onto the tile floor, creating a slippery hazard. The bathroom sink also leaked, causing the same issue. Maintenance responded promptly each time we called, which was appreciated. They repaired the air conditioning leak, but the bathroom leak persisted. Because repairs required staff to enter the room while we were there in the evenings, after long days spent enjoying the beach and pool, we chose not to continue requesting service. Instead, for the last three days of our stay, we placed towels on the floor and worked around the leak as best we could. Despite these issues, my children and I enjoyed the resort's amenities. The food was better than expected for an all-inclusive property, the pool temperature was perfect, and the beach was absolutely stunning. We made many wonderful memories during our stay. The maintenance issues did detract from the overall experience, but the beauty of the property and the exceptional staff still made it a memorable vacation."

"The only reason I rated more than 1 star is because of the staff. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. We had to form a line in the heat outside at 5pm to make reservations to eat at any of the restaurants other than the buffet. Latest reservation was 8pm but you were often buzzed early. If you didn’t you could only eat at the buffet because most restaurants were booked due to the limited seating at each. Very limited room service menu! Couldn’t order food at the pool! AC in the rooms would only bring the temperature down to about 75. Steak house is not air conditioned. The night we ate there we had to wait from 5:00 till 6:15 to make a reservation to eat there at 7:30. It was 95F and everyone was soaked in sweat. When we ate it was 90F, limited menu of only five dishes. Buffet would not be replenished with some foods. ie fruit at breakfast! Buffet had raw food and seafood that was not on ice. Temperature in the restaurant was above 85. Snack section had very limited offerings that was the same all week. Ice machines weren’t working for most of the week long trip. Only one Elevator working in the section of the hotel I stayed. You can no longer eat dinner at the other resort that had a much bigger dinning area and large food selection. If your room key came anywhere near your phone it would need to be reprogrammed. This happened more than I can remember. All the entertainment was outside at night where it was very hot. Too hot to enjoy!"

"Overall the resort was very nice and location was great. Breakfast was good. The rooms are a bit dated. We had to request an iron and board. The cleaning service needs improvement. There were days we had to ask for towels. They wouldn’t replenish the dirty ones. They didn’t refill the soap dispenser nor leave an extra toilet paper. All items we had to call the front desk for. Once we did, we did receive them quickly but it was an inconvenience to constantly call. The hotel should have some entertainment. There is absolutely nothing in the evening. They have a nice big bar with a large tv screen but never play big sporting events. Playoff NBA or NHL would have attracted alot more people. Instead we had to find local bars. Finally not many smiles from the workers at this resort including the front desk. It needs a friendlier environment."

"Our experience at this resort was extremely disappointing due to a lack of customer service and several concerning issues during our stay. Throughout the evenings, we were never offered beverages with meals, and it was often difficult to get staff members to acknowledge us. The level of service consistently fell below expectations for a resort. The condition of our room was also unacceptable. The bathroom ceiling was covered in black mold, which raised serious cleanliness and maintenance concerns. Additionally, we had an unpleasant experience at the pool. After placing our towels and shirts on lounge chairs and entering the pool, we watched our belongings being tossed on the ground, and taking our chairs for other guests without any communication or explanation. During our stay, several local guest informed us that the resort primarily caters to local visitors. We felt unwelcome as American guests throughout our visit. As a result of these issues, we chose to leave the resort early. Although we had paid for a six-night stay, we departed after four nights and incurred an additional $500 in airfare costs to return home ahead of schedule. The one positive aspect of our experience was the food, which was consistently very good. Unfortunately, the quality of the dining experience was not enough to offset the numerous service and accommodation concerns we encountered. American tourists are definitely not welcome at Barcelo."
