"Best thing about the stay was the view of the Mississippi River from our room. Room was clean. Had a fridge and microwave -- nice touch. Internet/Wi-Fi was sporadic; don't count on it for your usage. AC unit worked nicely but was noisy like most motels/hotels. The retreat overlooks Highway 52 on a bluff so you have a nice view of the River. On the downside, there is a rail line close by and trains roll through during the night blowing their whistles and semi trucks going by on Hwy 52 using their air brakes made for challenging nights. Good luck in getting a good, sound night's sleep. The exterior needs some TLC. The property had some nice features such as lounge chairs, grill, and fire pit. But the deck leading to the 2nd level is deteriorating. The structure could use some repair and paint. The grounds seemed to have a natural prairie look but there were weeds to take away from the attempted natural beauty. In summary, the Retreat had some nice features but also could be improved to make a person's stay more enjoyable. Since we didn't spend much time in our room other than sleeping and cleaning up, the negative aspects of the property didn't impact us much."

"Room had damage to walls, loose floor tiles in the bathroom, water damage on the ceiling in the bathroom, and the thermostat did not control the temperature. For 250 a night I would expect the rooms to be taken care of."

"This place isn't terrible, but, imo, it was not worth much more than half of the price they were charging. The rooms and decor are very old, dark, and dingy. This place is old and is starting to fall apart. I was disappointed. Again, if the price was considerably cheaper, the quality of the room would be more understandable."

"Parts of the room were aged. The curtains were old, the sink was poorly caulked. The bathroom door was damaged, the bathroom door frame was missing the edging, and the shower curtain did not stop the water from spilling over."

"House is a remodeled turn of the century 1900s) farmhouse, with plenty of history and modern touches. Everything we needed to be comfortable was provided. Beautiful property and close enough to town to explore. Enough bedrooms for 8. Quiet place to relax. Will stay again!"
