Throw-back in time

Very outdated. Worn-out facility. Needs a complete overhaul. New paint doesn't help this patched together building. Had just a part-time staff. Beds were very uncomfortable.

This is my 2nd attempt to rate this motel. I am not going to repeat all the bad things I said about this motel. It's bad. No internet. They had could not get it in my room. I was told to go outside connect and it should work in my room. It never did. I will never stay in this dump again, and I spend a lot of time in motels. Furniture from the 50's or 60's, and carpet not fit for a garage. Lousy two-night stay. Never again will I book this joint. I will sleep in my car in a park if I can get away with it.

Little motel, rooms were small felt like home. Bathroom was outdated but enjoyed the stay.

just ok

It was ok but I wouldn't stay again. Lot of dust on clock, fixtures and hair in the tub so it hadn't been cleaned well. Bring ear plugs! Railroad crossing is close so train horns blasting every hour all night long.

Don't go here

There are other motels in Ritzville that are newer, in better condition and less money. This place is right out of Freddy's nightmare.

Classic motel in an old-fashioned western town.

I stayed two nights and would have stayed longer if my schedule had permitted. Nicely decorated bed/sitting room and a spotless bathroom.

Not the "Top" choice around.

When we checked into the Top Hat, and opened the door. The smell of human urine was very strong. There was a half a beer on the counter and a half eaten to go box of food in the fridge. The floor in front of the sink dropped 6 inches when standing on it, there was a 2 inch gap under the front door and we had a visitor in the bathroom. A huge slug!

This hotel needs to be closed for a remodel.

We stayed because we had driven 400 miles, and the nearest town with a hotel would have required another 50 miles. This was a total disaster.

Easy to find but our room smelled

It was easy to find, had wifi, and the bed was very comfortable with nice sheets. However our room smelled like urine.

This is NOT a 3.5 rated motel. The worst in out o

There is no way this is a 3.5 out of 5. It was in the middle of nowhere. There was internet only if you stood in the office. There is no ATT phone service so we could not communicate with the outside world. The only eating place listed by the motel that was open after 7:30pm was a grill in a local bar. Good food but not our style. The next morning we did find a mile out of town a McDonald's and Subway? that probably were open but without communication we did not find it. The TRAINS went by blowing there whistle for blocks all night long. There was confusion about payment for our room on check in. That was due to our misunderstanding about booking with Expedia. All other reservations were paid when Expedia took our credit card info. NOT THIS ONE! WHY???? The motel was clean and the owner nice but this was the worst booking on our trip.

A hotel set back in time

The lady at the front desk was very nice! And the price for us was great! The room was very old fashioned. A little on a good way and a little in not a good way. For the price I expected some things a bit more updated. It seemed clean enough, but the was a plastic fork near my nightstand and cobwebs. The fridge had a mildew smell (they could put in a box of baking soda to remove).We didn't get WiFi service in our room. They had a pool, a trampoline, a slide, and a couple for pits with seating outside (that I loved!). The only thing that bothered me was the loud train which seemed to go by every hour. I don't know if that is a usual occurrence, but an offer of ear plugs would of been nice!

Whistle stop

Staff friendly, room small but comfortable. Upon arrival was told they did not receive my reservation, but I was one of two cars that night. Bath tub had someone's black hair in the bottom and sides. Housekeeping could be better. The bad part, not the motel's cause, but a train goes by real close every 20-30 minutes blowing the whistle. No real sleep.

1960's motel. The Top Hat is Bottom Shelf!

This motel was disappointing. The hotel is out of the 1950's. Minimal electric plugs. Radiator with no thermostat. No hair dryer. I almost never give negative reviews, but this is a motel that's past its time.

All Night Trains and Bogus Breakfast

Hotel add boasted of a continental breakfast which turned out to be a basket on the counter in the hotel room with 1 muffin, 2 envelopes of oatmeal that you add hot water from the tiny coffee pot and a breakfast bar. The add also said there would be fresh donuts and coffee in the "Loby" but there was a sign on the locked door of the "Loby" that they would be back around 3p.m. and a number to call if in need of a room. Then there was the train that went right by the hotel approx. every 2 hours during the night and every half hour once the sun came up. The rooms were very clean if you could ignore the flys on the celling and the bed was comfortable but I don't think I would ever stay there again.

Old hotel, very clean, great staff but unfortunately we could hear trains all night. Bring earplugs.

Nice place for a great price.

We were very happy with our stay in the Top Hat Motel. It's a very good price, and was what we needed for our quick overnight. Loved the little garden area they have there. It's pretty close to the railroad tracks, but that didn't really bother us. The manager was very helpful, and the room was clean. There was a nice little coffee nook with tea, coffee, or hot chocolate mix. There were some muffins, instant oatmeal packets, and granola bars. I would definitely stay there again.

Comfortable, old-style motel, historic downtown

What a find! I'm so glad we came here, both for the motel and the historic downtown. Jamie, the relatively new manager, has done a great job building up a lovely garden in front of the hotel. There is a BBQ and pet area you can use. There is a coke machine next to the office with 12 oz cans for.75 cents. There is no ice machine but, if you ask Jamie, she'll gladly go get a bag for you and keep it in her freezer until you need it. Just be sure to coordinate how you're going to retrieve it! It's across the street from an iconic-looking silo and the WA State Wheat Growers Assoc. The rooms are very spacious (not obvious from the outside, as it's a typical, drive up to the door, old-fashioned, roadside hotel), have flat screen tv, microwave, and larger-than-average frig. Since summers here are notoriously hot, it's good to have a/c which works well. Jamie recommended her parent's restaurant, Memories Diner, just a few blocks away in the historic downtown. She said if we mentioned her, that we'd get a 10% discount. I was prepared to check it out and walk away but I'm so glad we gave it a try. Again, we were not disappointed. Then, be sure to take a walk around the historic downtown. If you're there during the day, there are many cute shops and active historical and agricultural businesses, including the county extension office, a lovely Carnegie Library (which is open late most days and has free wi-fi), a railroad museum, and more. There is also a water park, nearby.

It was a clean room, but our door had no security lock, which is a little unnerving, the fridge did not work, and the bed was hard as a rock. The staff was very nice and accommodating.

Inexpensive motel

Ok for the price. Very noisy with train going by and honking through out the night. Also could hear pipes from next door when the shower was running. But you get what you pay for. Very inexpensive so didn't expect anything much better.

I'd stay here again

Over all I'd say this was a very pleasant stay. My wife and I stopped here for the night on our way up to Spokane, and were a little wary of staying at a small privately owned motel, but the service was friendly, the room was clean (though could use an update) the fridge was plenty big, and the bed was comfortable. The one draw back would be that a train goes by blowing the horn pretty loudly every hour or so, but the town is small enough that you probably couldn't escape that anywhere.
