Our host was lovely. There was a welcome pack of water, butter, jams, eggs and fruit juice. She explained where the best places to eat were and where to avoid. Also where the nearest shops were. The property has a great location on the lagoon, and it was lovely sitting on the veranda in the evening listening to the water.
This house surpassed all our expectations. The house was in a great location on the lagoon,it was clean and comfortable, the yard was gorgeous with many tropical flowers. Mary Lou has stocked it with essentials, milk, juice, eggs, butter, bottled waters. Two small stores are close by (2 minute walk) Pizza place and a snack bar as well. Our host was amazing! Mary Lou treated us like family , giving us advice on where to go swim, where to eat, what restaurants to avoid. She was just awesome! You will need a car, driving is pretty easy on Moorea there is just one main road so navigation is easy. I almost forgot Mary has two dogs who are very friendly and would come by to say hi which was great for us as we were missing our dogs back home
A beautiful, well-appointed house with a great host
The house is well-located with a short walk to stores and the sunday morning market. From the dock at the house, you can kayak to some of the best snorkeling in moorea. the vista from the back porch is lovely. marie-lou is a great resource for things to do and places to go. The house kitchen is well-maintained, the kayak was very useful, and having bikes made it easy to travel around. our family enjoyed our stay and felt very well cared-for.
We enjoyed our stay at Marie-Lou’s guesthouse! Marie-Lou was a great host, with advice for activities, and provided us with delicious fruit, coffee, milk, butter, and eggs for our stay, which was very helpful. Her guesthouse is in a local neighborhood, with all the sounds of the local dogs, chickens, and neighbors, which we did not mind, but if you are looking for a resort experience, you should stay at a resort.
Her place was right on the lagoon, and she had a two person kayak, that we used to take out to the reef to snorkel. We walked to the local grocery store just across the street to get pain de chocolat in the mornings. Her place is very close to great hiking. Her garden is beautiful with orchids and other tropical flowers. She has two great dogs that we enjoyed greeting daily. The bedroom has an air conditioner which worked well. You will need a rental car to get around Moorea FYI, which are available by the ferry.
We spent 2 weeks in Moorea, one at Marie-Lou's property and one at the the Manava resort. For us, the experience at Marie's property was the best. We just felt at home and relaxed there and enjoyed staying in a village off the tourist track. Marie and her husband greeted us warmly, showed us around the property, helped us with our bags and provided us with some fruit, eggs, juice, and milk to get us started.
Although we could not speak the language all of the neighbor's were friendly and smiled and waved as they became familiar with us during our stay. In particular, we enjoyed walking to one of the local grocery stores and picking up fresh baguettes in the morning. A time where many of the locals were pout doing the same thing. There was a special vibrancy in the community in the mornings we enjoyed.
There is a small dock in the back yard that we enjoyed going out on an seeing the stingrays, sunrises and sunsets. From there we also watching the local fisherman go out from the neighboring properties on their canoes, kayaks and paddle boards and coming back with their catches. The ocean view is also outstanding from the deck of the house.
We took advantage of the kayak that Marie provides almost every day to go out and snorkel the amazing reef that is a short paddle away.
Most of all we enjoyed the companionship of her two dogs, Ruby and Kiki who stopped by every day to check in on us or just sleep on the porch while we worked in them mornings (WiFi was excellent).

We left early. Wasn’t what we expected, at all. Neighbors Screaming, dogs barking, chickens Old worn out house. Sorry Mary Lou.
We found the property well suited to our needs. Great value for the price. The main bedroom was air conditioned, 2nd bedroom has a ceiling fan. You can jump off the dock to the ocean. Our host, Marie-lou is second to none, willing to share local insights that helped us navigate the ins and outs. Thank you!
Thanks to Marie-Lou for hosting us for nearly a week. Her beach view cottage is EXACTLY what we wanted for relaxing on Moorea. Enjoying her great porch for watching the lush garden and ocean views, hearing the surf on the distant reef, watching the passing boats, and living in a real neighborhood was far better for us than staying at some fancy resort. Plus, Marie-Lou is a wonderful source of local knowledge and recommendations. We were delighted and hope others will enjoy this cottage too!
The property was beautiful with orchids in the backyard. Marylou kept us supplied with fresh mango, star fruit, passion fruit, and pineapple. The air conditioned bedroom was cool and the fan cooked room was comfortable with the night breeze. Bikes were available. Centrally located. I would stay here again. It was a very enjoyable experience.
Mary Lou was a fabulous host. She was helpful explaining the ins and outs of moorea when we arrived. We have 12 and 9 year old children and the house was perfect for the 4 of us. Lots of outdoor space to relax in the garden, a kayak we used to watch sunsets in the lagoon and the house was well supplied with cooking utensils and appliances. There are a few small stores nearby we walked to get baguettes and croissants every morning. Local fisherman cleaned their fish at the dock and we could see rays and reef sharks as they swam by. Basically a free lagoon tour!! Lots of life in the neighborhood with chickens, dogs wandering about but Marylou’s house is well secured, we felt safe and comfortable every night. In summary, the pictures do not do this property justice, it is beautiful relaxing and perfect place to have an extended stay for a family.
We booked 10 days at Marie-Lou and Gilles ocean front property and had the most wonderful time. The house is clean, homey, fully equipped, and exceeded our every wish. It was perfectly situated for all our adventures and we couldn’t ask for more. Marie-Lou was so helpful and kind. She helped us book tours, gave great recommendations, and checked in with us regularly to make sure we had everything we needed. I highly recommend this property and booking with Marie-Lou, you will have a fabulous experience! My nieces and I thank you for everything, you really made our trip epic!
There are numerous options for staying in Moorea, but if you want a property with outstanding hosts then Marie-Lou and Gilles provide an experience to treasure forever.
The house is comfortable, clean, and relaxing. Marie-Lou did a wonderful job providing everything you would want for a stay. There are bikes, kayaks, and an outrigger for use by occupants and the sunsets each night are gorgeous.
When you do come over, make sure you make a trip to the supermarket and get a handful of Baguette. At 57 Francs you won't find a cheaper meal! The juicery, public beaches, magic mountain, and inland roads are all within 15 minutes of the house.
There are many tours also within 15 minutes of the house that will take you on ATV's, Jet Skis, as well as snorkeling with rays, sharks, and fish. Make sure you put Snack Mahana on your list of places to eat, and bring some Pacific Francs because some smaller venders do not accept credit cards.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the property was extremely comfortable and suited us very well! We are so thankful that we had the chance to meet Marie-Lou and her husband. They are wonderful hosts with a deep love of Polynesia and will share it with you when you stay with them!
This little bungalow was tucked away from the road right on the ocean. Beautiful well kept yard. Very clean. There were two sweet dogs that kept checking on us. Loved how Ruby would sometimes sleep on our back step. Made us feel watched over. MaryLou was so sweet and accommodating. She suggested several activities to us and even made phone calls to check on prices and times for us. We happened to time it right as a boat came bringing a craft market very close to the house that we were able to pick up some souvenirs at. We watched a young fisherman cleaning his catch off the pier at the back of the yard and later that evening there was a shark swimming just off the pier out our back door. Was pretty cool to see. MaryLou had the most amazing fresh pineapple and fresh Tahitian grapefruit for us to sample along with other basic food needs for our use at the house. This was experiencing true island life and hospitality at its best! You won't go wrong with this quaint little rental. It's not fancy but you will go away experiencing what Moorea is really like. Thank you, MaryLou for adding to our adventure memories!
Guest #1:
Marie treated us like we were family. She picked us up from the ferry and even took us to the grocery store when we were without a rental car. The first night I arrived alone after the stores and restaurants were closed and she invited me to have a lovely Polynesian dinner with her and her kind husband Gilles. Not a day went by when Marie wasn’t available to help advise us on activities, help us get local discounts, bring us fresh fruit from the garden, or just chat. She speaks fluent English which was a big help too.
The house was the most comfortable rental I’ve stayed at. I loved sitting in the living room or on the zero gravity chair on the back porch and watch the ocean and the boats pass by. Everything was quite clean and well maintained with lots of extra bath towels, sheets, and cleaning supplies for a long stay. Bikes and kayaks were great for day excursions.
Getting to meet Marie and her husband Gilles was one of the highlights of our trip!
Guest #2:
I stayed at Marie's place during September, encountering welcome but unexpected experiences. She very energetically, when she had time, showed my friend and I off-road spots near Belvedere. Moreover, I wanted to see what Chinese-Tahitian food was like, and she surprised me with the idea of eating at the one fancy Chinese place on the island. There are not many places in the world where you will be serenaded by a Tahitian band while eating well-made Chinese cuisine.
The house itself is cozy and clean. It has what you need to cook, stay fresh, and watch weird French TV. I took a few swims straight from the dock, which has quite shallow water for a few hundred meters but gives an excellent entry into Opunohu Bay. And my friend and I, somewhat naively, went on a rather long kayak ride from the dock that could have led us astray given the wind.
If you don't want to live in a contrived environment like at the resorts but still want have easy access to all the hotel beaches and excellent snack shops nearby, def stay at Marie's place. I will forever miss her deserts and her admonishments.
