My poor rating of Riad Alaka is due to one specific incident that occurred during my stay here. I stayed at Riad Alaka for 2 nights 15-16 October and booked a hammam treatment. I was originally told by the manager on duty that the cost would be 15 euros. However, after the hammam was finished and upon check out, the manager on duty (Aziz) told me that it was 15 euros plus an additional 15 euros for local tax, for a total of 30 euros. (This would essentially be a 100% tax.) I contacted various other local hammams in Marrakech and was told that "there is no taxes anywhere you go here , the price you pay includes everything , and not the clients who pay the taxes." As a result, I feel completely deceived and cheated by the manager on duty. Other than him, the rest of the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating.
The place itself is traditionally decorated and clean, and the free breakfast provided is very authentic and delicious as well. The location is also only about a 15-20 minute walk to Koutobia/Jama El f’na Square. Had I not been conned by the manager on duty, I would have given Riad Alaka a much better rating. If you decide to stay here, I would highly recommend booking through third-party sites (such as Expedia, Hotels.com, etc.) just to have your booking confirmed and everything pre-paid in full to avoid situations like mine.
