Situated just outside Kerikeri is the architecturally designed modern building that houses the Makana Confections factory, shop and café. This is a must for foodies with a sweet tooth.

Watch the makers busy at work in the factory, creating miniature works of art out of cacao, fruit, nuts and sugar. Makana Confections focuses on fresh, quality ingredients and does not use artificial colorings, flavorings or preservatives. See how large amounts of molten chocolate and other ingredients are expertly combined into eye-catching and mouthwatering treats. The large windows maintain hygiene in the workshop, but also keep tempted fingers away from the sugary treats.

Try a few of the free samples offered to appreciate the end result of all that careful work. Favorites include truffles, caramel and bonbons or chocolate blocks with nuts and perennial fruits.

Pop next door to the stylish café for a drink and a chance to enjoy some of the other creations of the skilled craftspeople at Makana Confections. A large selection of quality pastries and mouthwatering gelato are all made on site with fresh ingredients. Sip on a glass of New Zealand wine for added indulgence. Take a seat inside or enjoy the fresh air on the terrace.

Makana Confections is open daily and it is free to view the chocolate factory at work. Situated on the edge of Kerikeri, the site is best reached by car or taxi. Free parking and toilet facilities are located on site. If you buy chocolate treats, gift wrapping and posting services are available at an extra charge.
