Assuming this refers to Main St, Bar Harbor. Over the years it has changed - more typical of run of the mill vacation town. When I first visited 30+ years ago the downtown area had all unique stores and a very different feel. One very good thing - the Park bus can be picked up downtown. Visit the other small towns on Mt Desert - SW Harbor, NW Harbor, Seal Harbor, Somesville - more about f the original feel.

Depends what you like. Crowded; dining, drinking, attractions, shopping, upscale lodging are all around Harbor is at one end.
