Cozy and Clean
My husband and I and our 13 pound dog spent a delightful two nights at this adorable, immaculately kept home. The house is tastefully decorated, has a well equipped kitchen, two nice bathrooms and a nicely landscaped enclosed backyard. It’s also within walking distance to restaurants and shops. We couldn’t have asked for more and will absolutely rent this home on our next Madison visit.

Great place and location will stay again
This property was very clean and a nice comfy place to stay for our 25 year anniversary. The extra effort that was put in on the backyard fence to prevent animals from greeting out was awesome and the backyard was very beautiful. We would love to book this place again during warmer weather in the future, but still warm and great during the winter.

Always perfect!
This was our third stay at Black Cat Cottages, our second in the shot gun on West 3rd. When we decided to treat ourselves to Thanksgiving in Madison, we didn't even consider other locations. Thanks for doing what you do! I'm sure we will be back!

Stay at black cat cottage
Wonderful place. Very comfortable and the old and new decor was great. The amenities were unexpected. Short walk to restaurants and shops. Short drive to CliftyFalls. Nice backyard for my dog. Would definitely love to stay here again. Communication with Stew was great. I would recommend this cottage to anyone.

Great Getaway in Madison
Perfect cottage in Madison! In walking distance to so many things to do. The house was exactly as described, very clean and well taken care of. It was well stocked with everything we needed. We will definitely re-book with Madison Black Cat Cottages. They far exceeded our expectations. We all had a wonderful stay.

Very charming house in great location
Very charming house and is bigger than it looks in the pictures. House is very clean. House is in a great location close to downtown, and in a safe area. Host provides a list of area restaurants and points of interest in the area, also they left homemade cookies ( very nice touch!). I would highly recommend staying here if you are coming to Madison. We will most definitely be staying here again!!!

Had a great stay at this fantastic house!
Easy check in and the house was perfect. Clean and beautiful inside. Many upgrades and decorated perfectly. Loved the kitchen. The owners kept many of the old features and blended them well with the new features. The back yard is small but they made great use of all the space. Plenty of room for entertaining. Also a space for pets were provided with waste bags. The beds and pillows were comfortable. Only used the bedroom in the back but slept well. Thank you for letting us stay at your house. We were visiting our daughter and would definitely recommend this location and would stay there in the future.

Beautiful home and property
This home is an absolutely gorgeous renovation. The Hizeys have done such a wonderful job and are great to work with. With all of the high end finishes, cleanliness, and even the little touches like Tide pods, dishwasher pods, K-Cups, Ziplock baggies, Firewood and fire starter.... we felt like we were right at home. You think you forgot to bring something, just look around, I'm sure it there for you to use. This was a fabulous property and we truly enjoyed the backyard. The dogs next door were a bit annoying with their barks of what sounded like a fight club going on nextdoor. That's the only reason I gave the neighborhood and location 3 stars.... but that has nothing to do with rental itself. We will definitely consider this property if we decide to return to Madison.

Better than pictures
This is the cutest, cleanest place ever. The pictures on the website are old because it is much better than the pictures. The kitchen was fabulous. Could move right in and start cooking. Everything you ever need is in that kitchen. Beds were topnotch, bedding was high end. When they redid this shotgun house they spared no expense. The backyard is safely fenced in and safe for our little dogs.No escape holes for them. Loved the sitting room where we could sit and watch them as it was too hot to be out for very long. We picked the hottest days in the year for this trip. We ate at the Lighthouse and don't recommend it unless you like heavily fried food. The Red Pepper for pizza is great as is the deli across the street for the best sandwiches ever. It is only a block away so very convenient.. This is truly the best place we have ever stayed in Madison and we have visited there frequently. Whoever decorated this cute place is welcome to come and redecorate my house.

Very nice house. Patio very nice and dog friendly for our chihuahua. We will probably book again! It’s close to Red pepperoni and the Red Pepper, also handy for shopping at the Olde Thyme Market. Nice walk to river and antique malls.

Anniversary getaway
We loved our stay. The Bungalow and it’s location were a plus! Close to downtown, easy walk to the river and Heritage trail. Our dogs loved their freedom in the backyard. We’ve stayed at a few places this was our favorite!

Great Place!
We loved our stay here! The location was fantastic. We were able to walk to every restaurant and shop and Clifty Falls was only a few minutes drive from the house. The fenced in backyard was perfect for our dog. The house was clean and cute. The appliances and furniture were updated. I would highly recommend this location! Also, the owners were kind enough to leave cookies for our arrival ;)

First of all the house was beautiful you could tell a lot of thought was put into the decor very comfortable on the negatives tables out back where are filthy and the neighbor’s dogs barking made me so upset I had to call the police with that being said the positives still out waved the negatives I would stay here again

Great location!
My husband and I stayed at this nice and cozy home for our anniversary in June and it had everything we needed. We walked down by the river and downtown Madison each day. Our host left us a sweet treat and note wishing us Happy Anniversary. ( this was a thoughtful and appreciated touch) Clifty Falls State Park was a quick trip down the road too. We walked trails part of a day too. Very relaxing and enjoyable stay!

Fall Break Getaway in Madison, Indiana
Cottage was very cozy and comfortable. We loved sitting in the back patio area and the magnetic screen enclosure made it easy for our pups to come and go as they pleased. We would absolutely stay there again.

Comfortable and relaxing with all the amenities you need, including a grassy spot for the dog.
We thoroughly enjoyed Madison, especially its rich history. Staying in a shotgun house from the mid-1800’s made it that much better. The house is comfortably furnished and had everything we needed. We’re already looking at dates for a return trip. Thanks for sharing your awesome piece of history!

Charming and perfect location!
This adorable cottage is in the perfect location for walking almost anywhere downtown. It was immaculate and plenty of space for us to spread out, plenty of outlets, etc. The kitchen also had everything we needed including coffee. The pictures don’t do it justice!

ShotGun House in Madison
This property was very clean and extremely well-maintained. The only thing that guests need to supply is their food because this property is well-stocked with needed items like paper towels, dish soap, cleaning supplies, shampoo, body wash, etc. Even StarBucks coffee. It is tastefully decorated and maintains some of the charm of a house that was built in 1842. Very impressive! Highly recommended. We even had good weather. Thank you for your hospitality. Madison get away
It was a very nice house and we enjoyed our stay a lot. We were able to walk to several places from the house. It was clean and well stocked. Best of all, we had absolutely beautiful weather while we were there. The house has been nicely redone. If we get the chance to return would stay here again.

As stated the property is clean. The housekeeper was great. She visited with us, offered suggestions for dining, and even checked back with us the second day. The cottage has been creatively redone. It is definitely the nicest property in the neighborhood. The outside needs a good scrubbing, and the tools mentioned by another reviewer still grace the backyard. The distances to Main Street and the River Walk are accurate, but it puts you at the west end and far from attractions. The neighborhood walk is not pleasant, because all parking is on the street, and the area between the street and sidewalks are mostly unkept, unless you call tomato plants landscaping. The house next door has a nonfunctional refrigerator on the front pouch along with half a dozen ice chests. All that being said, I would stay there again, because the house is unique and comfortable and allows pets.

We are happy you enjoyed your stay. I am amazed that someone wants to comment on wood and yard tools 150 feet away from the house while we remodel the garage. Most homes in Madison were built in the 1800's and there was no need for garages back then, so most home owners have to park on the street. Not everyone has the means or money to keep up their yard, and we are sorry if tomato plants offend you. Our garage will be finished next weekend for the guest that doesn't want to look at a wheelbarrow and a shovel.

Hammerheads Show and Weekend with the pup!
I was comfortably impressed with this remodeled ole shotgun home! The pizza shop and Deli right around the corner at the end of the street were very convenient! I got lucky with parking because the neighbors went camping for the weekend! The house was clean, comfortable and roomy. I felt safe there too. I'd stay there again. My only wishes for it to be different was the back yard and a couple of minor things. The "all rock yard" was great for the dog to go out into the fenced in private area, but there were old bags of ice melt and an assortment of "tools" lying at the entrance to the back building. it didn't look great and I was concerned my dog would get into things that she shouldn't. Summertime maggots were feasting in the outdoor trash can, yuck, and a little mold on the outside of one of the shower curtains was a little disheartening. Nothing is perfect...so this was a great place to call home for a couple of days! Thanks!

Thank you for staying with us Linda. We were drywalling the garage and didn't thing a few yard tools and some salt would be an issue with our guest. We try to upgrade for our guests and often as we can and some will find a negative when we are trying to do something positive. The trash was removed immediately when you notified us. unfortunately hot summers bring out mother natures critters.

This property was exceptionally clean and well maintained. It was also beautifully decorated and practically outfitted. We had everything we needed except a fly swatter. My wife and I especially enjoyed the enclosed back porch for morning coffee or cocktail hour. We would definitely stay here again.

April Madison Getaway
This was a wonderful visit to Madison. We loved the house. The check in and check out processes were very easy. The sitting area off from one of the bedrooms and front porch were both great places to drink coffee or tea. The house was extremely clean and well stocked. We will definitely stay here again as the location is perfect.
