Abide Lakeside Cottage — a Peaceful, Northwoods Retreat on Big Sand Lake

"Our week at the cottage was amazing. Had the opportunity for the entire family to disconnect from devices and spend time talking, fishing, and eating some great area food. Cottage was clean and well equipped with easy access to the lake where the fishing was outstanding. There are kayaks available to use and the kids loved taking them out on the lake. Couldn’t ask for a better experience."

"Very clean and well-stocked (plenty of toilet paper and paper towels, which was great!). Relaxing area— ideal for good sleep and board games. We always come prepared in case there is nothing in the cabinets but there were some staples like sugar— I would probably go through those though because a few of the other spices we looked at were expired. I would also say that the night lights throughout were great as were the kid dishes but there were a lot of breakable knickknacks close to little hands so we just moved them out of reach. Upstairs loft is great for kids but one of the beds is VERY close to the stairs so don’t know if I would encourage anyone to use it. So sleeps closer to 9 than 10 but wasn’t a problem for us. Host was very responsive to any questions. Bar area does not have a fridge which is fine but was a surprise! Fridge upstairs is broken in several areas which made stocking a bit tricky but worked fine. Kitchen is well stocked with cookware just no measuring cups only measuring spoons if you plan to cook anything that needs a cup. Lake is low this year but super easy drive to other boat landings and beaches. Found a cute ice cream shop close by— The Shoppe. And explored the town of Spooner on a rainy day. Both very worth the drive. Only other note would be that the main area does get quite hot during the day, even with a/c, which makes sense with the lovely view. Just wish there had been a few more shades on the rectangular windows for temp/light control."

"My husband and I traveled with our teenage daughter and two of her friends. The cabin was great! My husband and I could hang out on the first floor, while the kids were downstairs playing games, chatting, and sleeping in the bedroom down there. We got to see a lot of wildlife. Took advantage of many beaches & lakes, as boating (Matt's Lakeside Watercraft Rental was outstanding!), tubing, paddle boarding, & lots of swimming was on the agenda! We also enjoyed the Clubhouse, Restaurant, workout room, sauna & pool. It was a great week to cap off our summer. I can't forget about Cindy and Scott. They were both such a pleasure & very attentive. Thanks for a memorable week!"

"We had a great time at this VRBO on Lincoln Lake about 10 miles north of Spooner, WI. Despite being the warmest week of the year in the north woods with 90s everyday, we were able to stay comfortable and cool due to several good fans in the cabin, a great beach area with good quality water for swimming, a nice breeze off the lake, and plenty of shade. A couple nights were uncomfortable, but over all it was not an issue. Water clarity and quality was good, fishing not so much due to very hot weather and plenty of weeds near shore. Twin Oaks Bar and Grill less than 2 miles away has great appetizers (fried cheese curds, onion rings and mushrooms), 1.50 tacos on Tuesday, and 10 home made pizzas on Wednesdays. It's worth the stop. And we went to Hub's River Bend in Trego for a fantastic walleye fish fry on Friday, next door to Jacks Canoe and Tube rentals. We had 2 days with wildfire smoke, but we did not let it deter us. The natural public amphitheater overlooking the lake is a great place to hang out and relax. If your idea of a vacation in the beautiful north woods of Wisconsin is sitting inside in air-conditioning, watching TV and movies, and playing video games, this place is not for you. If you prefer to be outside, swim, fish, explore and enjoy your surroundings, you will not be disappointed. Only two complaints is the cabin has virtually no counter space (but a large older kitchen table), and a very sandy area right outside the door. The Weber grill worked great for cook"

"Great location. Cranberry lake was clean and swimming friendly. The dogs loved swimming as well. Rented a pontoon locally. Enjoy a 20-30 min cruise thru the channel connection to Minong flowage."
