Great stay in Hydra

Lovely house and nice to be in a more traditional home, but still comfortable and lots of space (good for a family). Especially loved the outdoor spaces. Liked that it was in a quiet area, but still easily accessible to the harbor (yes, it is a bit of a steep climb up, especially with a suitcase, but just know that going in).

Large home

Traditional Greek dwelling. Nothing fancy but has everything you need. Farther up the hill than I had anticipated. Beds were very comfortable. Air conditioning worked amazing. Communication could have been a little better. For example I’m coming in as a tourist and didn’t understand I needed to find Piraeus bank to meet the concierge. Everyone else had signs at the port, so that was confusing. The keys for the exterior door were very hard to get in and out of. Mostly we hopped over the wall to enter and exit. They did have a washing machine which was amazingly helpful. Overall I’d give it a sold 4.25. 5 for actual space and 4 for how far away from town. You’d definitely need a mule or cart to bring your belongings.

The house is very comfortable, the air conditioning was great, Great outdoor space. The only thing that we would’ve liked is to have an indoor mop to clean up the water when we were done showering. And just update the coffee machine besides that everything was super.

If you have never been to Hydra, you would not know that it is an uphill climb on cobblestone everywhere you go. Definitely have a donkey carry your luggage unless you travel very light. Do not expect modern conveniences on an island: microwave, dryer, drip coffee maker, things marked in English, etc. The beauty of the place is its old world charm. We were uptight about a lot of missing conveniences but learned to embrace the culture.

A lovely quiet house - be aware that it's a bit up the hill, so guests are likely to burn a few calories acquired at lunch or dinner! Fortunately Alex arranged a concierge to meet us off the ferry and help with luggage up the cobbled streets.

Authentic Hydra Experience

House in quiet residential area. Owner very responsive to requests. Walk to property is 15-20 minutes uphill from harbor. Make sure to wear good shoes. Air conditioner on both floors, Appreciated having a washing machine.

It’s okay … if you don’t mind rustic. Staying at Alex's traditional summerhouse is more like camping out than staying at your usual holiday rental. Some things to consider: 1. The walk up the hill is no picnic and not suitable for those with any kind of mobility issues. If you stay here, hire a donkey to carry your luggage up. And remember: Every time you go down into town you’ll need to tackle that hill again to return to the summerhouse. 2. It’s not a true two-bedroom. One of the “bedrooms” is actually one large room that shares the same space as the dining table and the living room with television. You can see this for yourself in the pictures posted for the listing. The second bed is tucked into the corner of a room (kind of like a hall) with high rafters, which we found to be dusty and probably should be cleaned. 3. Speaking of clean: The apartment wasn’t. Cobwebs everywhere. Dirt and dust bunnies on the floor and corners. Spiders. At least one dead bug. 4. There is no bathtub or shower, just a handheld sprayer that one must hold to soap up/rinse off. The sprayer does not mount to the wall. The shower curtain is useless. Water goes everywhere. Using the toilet afterward means sticking your feet in a puddle. 5. Electrical issues. We had no power until they changed an old-style fuse. Some lights upstairs did not work. Far too many rats’ nests of wires. 6. We fled after one night. Had to eat the cost. Please don’t make the same mistake we made.

Maison charmante mais ça monte...

Réservation faite 2 j avant notre arrivée, l hote a été très réactif pour répondre. Reçu par une personne parlant très peu l anglais, pas évident de se faire comprendre. La maison d extérieur est très charmante, l intérieur est plus ancien, notamment la minuscule Sdb qui mériterait vraiment une rénovation. Elle est située à une quinzaine de minutes du port, et ca monte ! Nous n avons pas croisé notre hôte et laissé les clés ennpartant. Séjour agréable, avec qqs travaux, ce serait encore mieux !

Hydra life at its best

The house is an easy walk from the port, and very convenient location. It's a beautiful cottage in a neighborhood that makes you part of life here. It was a perfect size for us and our teenage daughter, who had her own space. We love it, and will absolutely be back.
