Hospital San Juan de Dios

The rooms were spacious, modern, and well-lit; proactive maintenance on common areas was underway. Staff members were generally very friendly in person but unreachable by phone to save a reservation when encountering a 1-day airline delay (penalty did apply). The breakfast was *excellent.* Each day was a slightly different variety of fresh fruits, breads, yogurt w/assorted customizable toppings, and local hot dishes as well as eggs custom-cooked to order served with fresh juices and hot drinks (tea, coffee, hot chocolate, etc.). It was a generous and delicious buffet with each guest welcome to eat their fill, definitely exceeding expectations. A potable water tap for guests in the dining room provided significant additional value. The area seemed relatively safe, including by locals' assessments. There are two independent elevators at opposite ends of the main hall. Sound insulation from street and neighbor noise was pretty good. The view from the rooftop was great; there is also a gym up there and a Jacuzzi available by 30 minute advance reservation during limited daytime hours. Small meeting rooms & a chapel looked nice. During this stay, plumbing sounded like a freight train passing through due to a loud water hammer effect not exactly welcome especially when a nearby party all took 3am showers. Management later turned off all hot water, then all water (no adjustments offered), then I left. The plumbing might be fixed now but was a serious issue during this stay.
