Homewood Cabin in the Pines — Near the Lake & Homewood Ski Area

This blue-shingled cabin sits up a wooded driveway among boulders and tall pines, giving it a quiet, tucked-away feel just minutes from the lake. Inside, knotty pine walls and ceilings run through the open living and dining area, warmed by a gas fireplace that lights at the flick of a switch and lit by rows of windows that look straight out into the forest.

The kitchen has been updated with blue cabinetry, quartz counters, a gas range, and stainless appliances, with plenty of room to cook for the group. A long dining table seats everyone, and the sectional sofa in the living room faces a mounted TV, good for a lazy afternoon after skiing or swimming.

The home sleeps up to 5 across two bedrooms, with a shared bathroom. Board games and a wood-paneled, cabin-style décor keep the mood relaxed and unfussy throughout.

Outside, the driveway takes two full-size vehicles, and the wooded lot gives some natural privacy from neighbors. A bear box is mounted at both the front and back doors for trash storage.

Homewood is about as central as the West Shore gets. The lake sits just across West Lake Boulevard, a few minutes' walk east of the cabin, and Swiss Lakewood Restaurant is essentially across the road. Homewood Mountain Resort is 0.9 miles down the shore, with Palisades Tahoe about 6 miles north. Obexer's marina is under half a mile, Kaspian Day Use Area and Blackwood Canyon are both under 3 miles for swimming and hiking, and Tahoe City's shops and restaurants are about 5 miles up the water.

A note on the setting: the cabin's windows frame the surrounding forest rather than the lake, and the water is a short walk away rather than in view from the house. There is no street parking in winter, so every vehicle needs to fit in the driveway.
