Kristi was an excellent host, providing just the right conveniences but still keeping the cabins rustic. She is also a commercial salmon fisherman and makes the freshest possible, most amazing fish available during your stay. The cabins sit literally between two beaches, nestled in the fir trees and the views are spectacular on each side. All three cabins have their own gas grill, picnic table, adirondack chairs down on the Kachemak Bay side and even firewood waiting for you to build a fire right on the beach, should you choose. There is a wood fired sauna in its own tiny cabinet and a nearby outdoor hot tub available as well, though you’ll have to plan ahead and start the fire yourself in the wood stove a good 30 or more minutes prior to using the sauna, probably longer for the hot tub. There are numerous gorgeous hikes within walking distance for the intermediate or advanced hiker, plus tide pools to explore and long walks on the beach if hiking isn’t your thing. Kristi provides double and single kayaks of excellent quality and there are plenty to go around. The Kasitsna Bay side is protected (calm) and has spectacular scenery, including pristine coves with snow capped peaks in the background. Most unusual though, is that there are dozens of bald eagles relatively used to people, as they fully take advantage of the extras after some of the salmon is fileted. This makes for AMAZING photo ops, even for a lousy photographer like me!😄 You need to take a water taxi from Homer to get to the cabins, with Mako or Ashore Water Taxi, and they drop you and your luggage right on the beach. Be sure to buy groceries for the duration of your stay. Coffee, powdered creamer, sugar, salt, pepper, lemon pepper, dill, onion powder, and garlic were provided (perfect for grilling your salmon). The water running in the cabins is fresh cold mountain spring water and tastes amazing! I would recommend bringing some instant cocoa to have after any chilly outings and a bottle of wine to share at your beach fire for a truly relaxing, one of a kind vacation.
