Cosy Cottage with stunning coastal views at the foothill of Carn Llidi mountain

Tan y Garn -

Tan y Garn is a tastefully renovated barn conversion. The living quarters are found on the first floor to capture the spectacular sea views which are visible on the quaint side windows or via the stable half door near the kitchen. The property has a newly built stone veranda looking out over Whitesands Bay complete with a 3 person Hot Tub and al fresco dining area. A commanding view of Carn Llidi is clearly visible from the Kitchen skylight and the veranda - it's breathtaking. You are inspired to relax and cook with commanding 360 degree views all around you. Up the original barn steps and through the old-wood stable door, the snug appeal of open plan cottage living can be appreciated. The fully equipped kitchen with its smart American fridge/freezer, dining area and luxury lounge are all tastefully decorated along with vaulted ceiling, slate floor.. The lounge has a wood burner and several eye-catching original features and original local paintings and numbered prints.

The benefit of open plan is whether cooking, eating or relaxing in the lounge area, no-one is left out; family & friends can still contribute to any conversations or take pleasure in watching a movie whilst cooking, washing up or sitting at the dinner table.

The ground floor houses a bright, well decorated double bedroom with newly laundered linen with en suite shower. The bunk room with single day-bed benefits from a separate shower & bathroom, to have a good soak & ease the day away.

There are countless activities to enjoy ! Why not pack a picnic and take a leisurely walk along the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path which is virtually on your doorstep. Meander up Carn Llidi, to absorb the full beauty of the coastline and visit some of its historical sites.

Alternatively, spend your days on Whitesands Beach, renowned as one of the top beaches in the country, popular with families and a hotspot for keen surfers and beginners alike with its seasonal water sports hire shop and cafe all in short & easy walking distance. Walkers, surfers and dog owners are well provided for and several beaches have stretches that allow dogs on all year round which are wonderful for families and their pets.

The historical tiny City of St David’s is only a short drive away with its Bishop’s Palace and Cathedral. There are a host of independent shops, restaurants and pubs to sample. For those who fancy a short sea excursion and have an interest in our feathered friends, St. Justinian’s offer boat trips to Ramsey Island Bird Sanctuary.

Tan y Garn is set next door to Upper Porthmawr, ideal for larger groups that would like to rent both properties together.

Not the warmest welcome
Accommodation and location is really lovely. Sadly communication prior to arrival and a very cold first afternoon/evening made us feel rather unwelcome. We read in the welcome pack about drinking our “welcome Prosecco” but sadly weren’t provided with any (we weren’t expecting any so not an issue) but the milk sachets we were provided were out of date - by 9 months! Having walked into a freezing cold cottage we quickly read the instructions for heating but some hours later it was no warmer so we text for some hints. We received a very speedy response to say an engineer would be called out - he did come the next day - hour and a half late meaning we had to wait around for him. He explained we’d done everything right so it was just a case of waiting 24 hours for the place to warm. He was a lovely chap but this could’ve been avoided if the thermostats had been notched up prior to our arrival. It might seem we are a pair of moaning gits - we’re not (honest!). We had splashed out on a couple of nights as a treat and felt rather let down. We went on to enjoy the hot tub, power shower, very comfy bed and cosy log fire. Just a shame the couple of things weren’t sorted to give us a warmer welcome.

Outdoor vacation extraordinaire
Hiking trails outside your door, fantastic beach and wood fires at night. This is the perfect setting for a rustic vacation. We saw lots of wild rabbits and ponies and enjoyed the well stocked kitchen for evening meals. We recommend this home!

Wonderful stay
Four of us stayed. After a tricky start regarding the cottage being ready on time everything went well. cottage and location fantastic,!! my only criticism would be the road to the property was very rough and the derelict building opposite, if what is left of the roof was removed it would grately improve the already fantastic veiw of the sea. Will definitely return. We had the best time. 😁

St David’s
Stunning views, perfect location for all of Pembrokeshire. Everything we needed. Hot tub after kayaking! But: Found out from the neighbors that at one point the house was double booked privately. Glad I reached out two weeks prior. Then email came with no code to get in. I messaged early that day and finally arrived with no access! Called texted emailed along with all neighbors and was ghosted for two hours. Then a reply with code and nothing more! Scary when you’re in a foreign country to be stranded!!! Otherwise we are easy.

Excellent location
Really enjoyed our short stay. I don’t think there are many better locations in the U.K. - you are in the shadow of a mountain and five minutes from a perfect beach. Property generally very good. Shower in en suite had broken door and there was a leak around burner chimney. Otherwise lovely and the hot tub is a big bonus.

Good location
Great location within 15 minutes of 2 beaches- one is dog friendly. Overall a good cottage. The owners are not good at responding to calls or emails- so don’t expect them to get back to you. The kitchen has a random selection of crockery, all rather poor quality; the shower room needs an upgrade - the shower doors don’t close; we needed bath mats. However the location and view are great- a few tweaks and responsive owners would improve the experience.

Over-priced
Looking at the online listing I was expected big things of the property despite the high price point. However we were instantly disappointed upon entry. The living and kitchen area was in a very poor state of cleanliness. There was thick dust on the work surfaces and the light fittings. One of the armchairs was dirty and sitting in it caused dust to fly up. The top of the fridge was dirty and there were cobwebs wherever you looked. The location of the accommodation was a plus but, considering the guidelines for cleanliness and the printed mission statement in the kitchen I seriously doubt any deep cleaning had taken place prior to our stay. Considering we stayed in an accommodation for a third of the price in May which was spotlessly clean we are extremely dissatisfied with the standard for this cost.

A small part of paradise
We had an all to brief stay in Tan y Garn. We had a long weekend as a family stay but could have stayed for a week or more. The property was very clean and cosy. We loved the well equipped kitchen and the hot tub was a huge bonus. We went to skomer island (an hour away) which was incredible and we walked up the hill behind the cottage. The boys played outside in the fields and we loved spotting rabbits there in the morning and evening. A glorious spot - we will be back to enjoy the beautiful white sands beach.
