Cleanliness was good and the hygiene staff helpful. The window in our room did not close properly so we had to put a towel across the gap. The heating in the room was good though. There is everything you need in a room. We stayed for 4 days but the receptionist never asked when leaving if we enjoyed our stay or if we had any problems. Parking we spent £6.50 for 24 hours in a multi storey 5 mins away (recommended by the hotel) and our car was safe. Across from the car park there is a nice homely pub called The Tap with many board games to try. We also loved Banyan a lovely big modern bar at the side of the hotel. 2 for 1 cocktails and the staff were fabulous. The blues bar across the road on a Sunday with live music was fab although not many tables. We went to Betty's tea room but not as I imagined and very expensive. I was a little disappointed. We found a lovely, quirky tea room in Knaseborough which is a lovely town with lovely views and 2 stops away on the train. The Lavender tea rooms food was great with big portions of home made cakes, soup , scones, sandwiches etc but service is a little slow so don't expect a quick service. The food was worth the wait. We also enjoyed the Alexandra bar which is huge but never ate there. We ate in Jinnah an Indian restaurant which was ok. The tapas restaurant Essence was fabulous but our favourite was Piccolino which was a little bit more expensive but the food was top class and the staff lovely.
