A Unique Client ! In 18 years of running my holiday let I have never had any previous client not master locking the front door, turning the On button to work the washer or switching the heater panels on at their mains switches to enable them to operate ! The heating works to a timer that is set morning and afternoon / evening which will allow the heaters to operate if they are obviously switched on individually at their mains sockets and the meter has credit. Simple instructions are there in the Property Manual File to show clearly that if heating required outside of these set times - this can be overridden by pressing the advanced button on the control panel which enables the heating panels to come on if desired outside the programme set times. The hot water works by switching the timed control panel on, the water heats up overnight to a full tank of hot water each morning. Again if a lot of hot water used that day, this can be topped up by pressing the boost button if required. Full instructions are in the property manual. The client contacted me several times by text and each time was answered at every occasion . There was never a valid problem or issue found to warrant need for anything to be repaired or anyone to be called out at his insistence. As the client states he did master to lock the front door to the property after another holiday lodge owner showed him how simple it was to lock the property door with the Yale key! The lock and the door worked perfectly fine without any issue found. This weekend I stayed at the lodge and found everything working fine, the front door locking fine, the panel heaters and fire working fine, the washer working fine, the water working fine. The property was fully checked over the day before your stay by ourselves and everything was found in order. This was done to ensure all was in order for your pending stay accordingly. I had to make contact with you by telephone a couple of days into your 10 night holiday stay over a parking access issue near a neighbouring lodge and no communication was returned back to me of any issue / problem you had . Hi Julia, Thank you for your review and pleased you enjoyed your stay @ Heron Lodge and it’s lovely rustic private garden. Unfortunately regarding the recycling of refuse the holiday Lodges are classed as commercial businesses and in Scotland they have not introduced commercial recycling as yet and until this is actioned by the respective government / local government we are unable to offer recycling to guests.....other than what you found on offer some distance away. Thank you for your courtesy during your stay and thoughtfulness in taking your recycling to be disposed of at Dalbeattie accordingly. Unfortunately, at present time there is no commercial recycling company interested to uplift regularly, a site bottle bank was looked into....but required recycling into respective coloured glass and therefore at least 3 containers required at extortionate cost to uplift. A Can Bank was done some years previous but was cancelled by company after grant expired. So we await government action accordingly. Louise Heron Lodge

Thank you for your time to review Heron Lodge..... The area of Dumfries and Galloway is indeed a lovely diverse tourist area.....with lots of lovely tourist attractions as you mention. The lodge is exactly as you describe as a cosy home from home environment with everything and more provided for a comprehensive self catering holiday. No doubt this is due to many a personal experience of renting a high end holiday propertiy and on entering to find bare kitchen cupboards supplying a few bits of crockery and an odd piece of cutlery, with a cold stark environment and not a pamphlet or leaflet on the surrounding area. Heron Lodge has many repeat guests and you and your family are very welcome to return again. Louise Heron Lodge Owner

The heating at Heron Lodge is obtained by feeding the electric meter with coins, being £2 or £1 coins accepted. This is clearly indicated in the homeaway advertisement and further clearly indicated in the Arrival Letter which is sent out to guests before their pending arrival along with the key code and entry instructions. Electric for general use- cooking, lighting and hot water is fully inclusive in the price of lodge hire for normal domestic requirements. These guests did contact by telephone and instructions were clearly given again on how to obtain heating at the property. They stated that on popping monies into the electric meter they did obtain heating on entry, but it had stopped working ? By instruction they stated that on feeding the meter with a further £1 coin they could see they had credit on the meter reading and that would then function the heating appliances. This was concluded that when the meter credit had been exhausted, obviously more monies needed to be fed into the electric meter for the heating to come back on. In winter months like a January stay an estimate of £5 -£8 maybe approximately required to heat the lodge using all the heating appliances per nights stay - depending on the optimum temperature required and the hours of requirements of use. The heating unit rate cost is of standard rate per electric supply company of day / night unit charged. Heron Lodge did have stay two sets of guests within a week of your stay at Christmas and New Year and a party of guests the week after your stay in January without any problem or fault of the heating panels /fire / bathroom fan heater and heated towel rail or any fault with the electric meter being fed with coins without problem. Heron Lodge is an established holiday let property with over 11 years of letting experience and any genuine problem or issue will be immediately addressed. Furthermore, all the heating appliances and the electric coin meter have been professionally checked over to be found fully functional accordingly and a further personal Owner visit found everything functioning fine.
