The COVID-19 outbreak has changed how we travel, but it hasn't put the brakes on our desire to explore. Here are some tips on how to navigate travel's new challenges:

• Before booking your flight, check if any travel restrictions apply — in both your origin and destination. Get the latest updates by reviewing government travel advisories.
• When you go through airport checkpoints, do not remove your face mask. You will be required to lower it briefly for ID purposes. Anyone refusing to wear a face mask may be denied entry or boarding.
• You're no longer required to hand your boarding pass (paper or electronic) directly to a TSA employee. Rather, position your pass on the reader and then hold it up so the agent can inspect it.
• One container of liquid hand sanitizer is now allowed in your carry-on bag. It must be no bigger than 12 oz (350 ml), and you'll have to take it out of your bag for scanning.
• Empty everything from your pockets, like your phone, keys and wallet, and put them in your carry-on instead of into bins. This will minimize handling during screening.
• Separate any food you're carrying for X-ray screening. Food items often trigger the alarm. Putting them in a clear plastic bag and into a bin reduces the need for a TSA officer to handle and inspect your belongings.
