Hello Gerard, Thank you for your review. We're sorry you were disappointed. As you say we are gradually refurbishing the hotel at a pace that can be afforded having started on the ground floor. The scaffolding is there for a couple of weeks as we are presently doing essential roof repairs. Nevertheless we do all we can to make our guests welcome and comfortable and we hope to see you again. Hello Mr. Clough, Thank you for your review. We regard all feedback as gifts so appreciate you taking the time to share your opinion. It is true our hotel is old. We understand the building is in fact 120 years old. It is not however, smelly. We are working on refurbishing it as that can be afforded. We have completed a lot of work on the ground floor and we are presently doing roof repairs. We will be starting on refurbishing bedrooms as soon as possible. You are right that we do not offer breakfast at this time and will not until we have refurbished the kitchen. That is one reason we don't use the expression "Bed & Breakfast" and we do not offer B&B rates so there can be no confusion. I think your review is reasonable and we respect it as your view until you start making a personal attack on me which is not not very nice, not reasonable and is actually defamatory of my character. Fortunately we also get many positive reviews from happy customers, including very complimentary reviews about us personally as owners. The fact is, people's perspectives are very different. I note you say you would stay again or recommend but I think that might be a typo? Nevertheless we hope to welcome you again when we'll all do everything possible to provide you a comfortable and relaxing stay. Thank you for visiting and leaving a review.

Dear Robert, Thank you for your valued review. We regard all feedback as gifts. You booked a room with a shared bathroom and as you say, you were not happy and left, so you did not stay here. You asked for a refund which we gave you immediately even though we were not obliged to do so. We want our guests to be happy. As you say - and you are right, the hotel is in need of improvement. We bought it last year for its exceptional location right at the beach and we have planned extensive refurbishment which will take some time. This will include making all rooms en-suite. We started this year with essential but largely unseen alterations and repairs to plumbing, drainage, ground floor ceilings, floors, the roof, replacing all the flat roofs including a section over the room you booked, which is why there is a repair to the ceiling there.You also rightly complained about a guest in the adjacent room who it seemed and later admitted was smoking weed in his room, the smell of which permeated the hallway. This is not only against our no smoking policy but against the law. You mentioned the crack in the door which was damaged by a previous guest so the door will need to be replaced and the repair to the ceiling which was needed as a result of a roof leak remedied in the aforementioned roof repairs we have done. When that room is fully refurbished and made into an en-suite, the whole ceiling will be refinished. You also say the room was dirty but our cleaning is thorough and we work hard to make our guests feel welcome and comfortable.
