Cave Hollow Trailhead

Do not ever plan to stay here. I arrived by Uber to a parking lot full of weeds and a white sedan parked in front of the entrance with no license plate on it. Entering the lobby I was met by a screen with an online check in service with people who seemed to be based somewhere in India. Since I did not have a car, I asked the electronic desk where I could get dinner to have nearby that would be a safe walk from the hotel, and was told I could google it and figure it out for myself. The room itself had no remote for the TV so I could not turn it on. When I asked for a remote that would work, I was told by the person on the screen that they would text the person responsible as soon as they got the text. It never arrived. The room itself was fairly clean, and there were no bedbugs, but there was no had tissue, coffee maker, or supplies to make coffee in the room. Although I also asked for those supplies to be delivered, they never came either. The next morning I went to the lobby area for breakfast and was told, again by the person on the screen, that there was no breakfast being served because the person responsible for it was in the hospital. With my litany of complaints the screen apologized for the “inconvenience,” and said that the overall problem was that renovations were going on. There were no workers or any renovations apparent to me, and certainly no one available who could act as a manager. Go somewhere else.

I travel to So. Illinois annually to visit but this is my first stay at the Makanda Inn. It will not be my last. I had a very peaceful stay- after long days of family visit and running around with the grands, it was so nice to stay here where it was quiet and relaxing. Breakfast every morning was top notch and just the right portions.

What a stunning slice of paradise—impeccably kept and staffed by folks who seem genuinely thrilled to anticipate your every whim. Our time here was absolutely stellar, with the team hovering nearby like helpful ninjas ready to swoop in at a moment's notice.
