Eleanor Peaslee died, her surviving sisters thought a family tomb beneath a granite sphinx would be a fitting tribute. So, they sold one of their summer cottages and commissioned the work.

However, the infatuation with Egyptian architecture was apparently a passing fancy. When the sisters' time to move on from this life had come, they were interred elsewhere.

What's in a name?

Well, oddly enough, at Cave Hill Cemetery, there's a hill, with a cave.

A natural spring spills forth from this 246 ft deep cave. Standing upright, the cave could be explored for about 100ft. No, it's not allowed... There is a colony of bats that inhabit the cave. Bats pouring from a cave at dusk in a cemetery would be quite a visual.

This man, Harry Leon Collins, held a job I didn't even know existed. He was the corporate magician for Frito Lay.

This statue was sculpted by fellow Kentuckian and eternal neighbor at Cave Hill Cemetery, Barney Bright.
