Canal View Trailside Cabin 23A
What do our guests say about us? Perfect! Amazing! Awesome! We will be back!
As you round the shoreline, the stretching waterfront landscape will catch your eye as you approach the parking lot directly in front of the lodge (Yes! There is ample space for a trailer!). You will use a keyless lock system to enter your cabin.
Open the door and walk down the stairs into your new place. Upon entry, you will be instantly greeted with the aroma of pine which is visible in the tongue and groove walls and ceiling as well as an instant sight of north facing windows capturing a stunning view of the Portage Canal. On second look, you will notice a comfortable queen bed inside a single bedroom and a queen pull out sleeper sofa (sleeps 4 total) among other beautifully crafted pieces of cedar, Amish made furniture.
Each of our hand made, custom milled, northwoods cabins boast a three story duplex including a ground level, garden style unit and an upstairs double decker terrace style unit. The cabin size in total is 2,500 square feet! (550 and 1,950 square feet respectively). They all include full kitchens and washer/dryer units for your convenience and utility.
Walk out the back door onto your patio and embrace the jaw dropping, sweeping beauty of the Keweenaw Waterway in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Whatever your needs may be: Visiting Michigan Tech, snowmobiling (the Bill Nichols trail is only .25 miles from the resort!), swimming at the beach, or skiing (Mont Ripley is less than 2 miles from the resort), we offer a comfortable, comprehensive resort experience for you.
Memories are in the making!

We just wanted to go up and see some of the UP as a quick vacation
The property was clean, warm and had all the amenities one my beed foe a much longer stay. Their allowance of pets was cery helpful and they are juat ourside of houghton with very easy access. We had a good time!
This unit was new and very clean. The layout was impressive as they fit everything needed into this unit. There are a number of stairs down to the lower unit. The water views were terrific.
This property is adorable! We stayed in a lower unit with our dog and absolutely loved it. It's cute, clean and you can't beat the waterfront patio. We hope to return when the property is complete and there is a walkway to the beach area. It's a magical little getaway!
Location of perfect for MTU visit and not too far from waterfront trail. It’s close to the grocery store and restaurants. Love that it’s new and clean !! Would highly recommend!!
This place was PERFECT. So immaculately clean, it looked like nobody else had ever stayed there! It had every detail thought of- even the sofa bed mattress was super comfy. Having the washer/dryer was a game-changer. The view was beautiful too. Can’t wait to come back!
We had a great time here for CU Family Weekend with multiple parents able to come and go and see their kids. If this was closer to campus would be perfect but must plan ahead for that. Otherwise location great, easy on/off expressway and lots of food and activity options nearby. Large backyard and didn’t want for anything. Val was very responsive and answered all my questions.
Our daughter was suddenly not able to watch the dogs and we needed to get up to Houghton to look for a home purchase. Found this option and it turned out great for us with two rooms set up for people with pets. Included dog bowls and drip trays around the bowls like we have at home. Great view right on the water and good location close to town with stocked supplies.
I have a lake home I have Vrbo’d for the last 5 years and supply everything under the sun to make things easy. This place has a similar thought process as me and it made life easy.
Thank you!!!
Nice location on the portage, but some things to consider
First, the property manager is terrific. He communicates as much as you need before your arrival and is assessible for any issues during your stay. In our case, we had a loud group move into the "B" unit, which is above. They entered at 1:00 AM and kept us awake until 4:30 when they finally stopped. The property manager addressed this the next day and the noise issue was resolved. However, if these units were built with reasonable sound isolation between them it would be fine. Unfortunately, the developer decided to save money and skip that expense. The other thing that was skipped was hanging space.
My other complaint is that all of the units are pet friendly. They should reserve some that are pet free for those of us that are allergic to pets. While the unit seemed very clean, I definitely had allergy issues the entire time I was inside.
The view from the cabin is great. Right on the water. The two cabins to the east are a bit angled from the others and point toward Houghton. That ends up being a better view than looking straight across the channel. I'd provide the cabin numbers but the rental system is preventing that.
We would be wiling to stay again if we booked into a "B" unit to avoid noise and if they made some cabins pet free.
I absolutely love Keweenaw water resort, it’s my family’s hometown and the sister cities is where I grew up. The convenience of location, amenities and comfortable lodging is perfect. This is my second year staying here and I will definitely be coming back next year. Their campground is very family oriented, clean and well kept. Overall it’s a great place to stay.

Liked: Cleanliness, property conditions & facilities, communication
My husband and I were absolutely blown away not only by how beautiful the UP is but by the cabin we rented itself. We had all the amenities and then some. We loved the added touches of custom made furniture, bowls and a bed for our pup and the cleanliness of the whole area. 10/10 would absolutely recommend staying with Keneewaw and we cannot wait to come back!!
Loved everything about this place, clean and neat decor. Coviently located close to town. View can't be beat. Check in very easy. Allows pets (even had little blanket for my dog and dishes). Only struggle was trying to walk dog, muddy and snow and close to road so, that was a bit hard but, guessing once they finish up the landscaping over summer that will get a little easier. Would love to stay again!!

So, so small and cold.
Definitely would not recommend this unit. The unit was at the bottom of a looong flight of wooden stairs. Once the stairs got wet, they became messy and treacherous. The floors were very cold and there were only two small, thin tugs to mitigate the cold. The unit itself was quite small. The bedroom had so little clearance around the bed that the door could not be opened fully. In theory four people could sleep here, but it would be overcrowded. With the sofa pulled out to sleep, there would be nowhere to sit except the table. Four people could not sit and watch TV. The amenities in the unit were remarkably cheap. We were surprised that items like towels and silverware could be so, so cheap. There was no closet and the only place to hang clothes were a few hooks.
