Beautiful skies

Definitely a Home Away From Home!
We loved escaping San Antonio to come out to Terlingua and this home made it all that much better. It was so peaceful and had everything we needed. Every night we sat on the porch and enjoyed our wine. So relaxing and we loved how quiet the area is. Perfect place for stargazing!

Christmas Getaway
We enjoyed our stay, especially the peace and quiet of the place. House was well appointed with supplies. The drive to Terlingua and the Parks was, as described, in the listing, which made for long day trips. Sitting outside after dark and watching the skys come alive was our favorite pastime. If you want to be away from neighbors, noise and light pollution this is the place for you.

Nice getaway
This VRBO had all we needed for a quiet week away. The hosts provided very helpful information (such as where to purchase fuel and stock up on groceries) so we could plan our arrival in advance. It is quite a drive to get into Big Bend NP from here, but plan on a lot of driving pretty much anywhere you stay in the area. We saw a coyote one morning when we took a walk down the road. Also saw a roadrunner up very close when it hopped up onto the windowsill next to the sofa where I was sitting and reading (inside). Thanks for the lovely accomodations.

Beautiful, rustic Big Bend experience
Private location with beautiful views. Thunderstorms each evening were breath-taking. Hosts provided all the water we needed. Easy drive to the national park and surrounding area/activities. Terrific directions. Rugged driveway, not for a low-slung car.

Extremely private dessert getaway with wildlife
We really enjoyed the front porch, very private, beautiful views and quiet. Watching lots of birds, and even javalina's came walking by. It was further away from Terlingua as we thought, based on the vrbo app, but worth it. Directions were clear, but written for driving from the north. However we drove from the south, since we stayed in Chisos first. We loved our stay a lot!

Dream house
Set into a mountainside with a beautiful vista to the east and a hammock for ease of stargazing. Loved the screened in porch and the front porch lined with Adirondack chairs for a relaxing evening after some treks through Big Bend. Really comfortable accommodations. The supply of drinking water and a well stocked kitchen was much appreciated too! Was a bit of distance from the Park but totally enjoyed our stay there. Watch out for the burros on the ranch road!

Terlingua getaway.
We were visiting from Michigan and stayed at Terlingua for 5 days and hiked at BBNP everyday. It was lovely coming back to the very comfortable house that had everything one would need! The night sky was a treat and the enclosed patio was great for night and early morning coffee! We had small issue with water which Darly took care of right away. He was on top with his communication. Thank you! PS: the mattress and pillows were the most comfortable that I have had at a rental! Thanks for a memorable visit to BBNP.

Great Secluded Getaway
Awesome place to stay if you’re looking for some quiet. About a 45 minute drive to both state and national parks. Beautiful views, clean, quiet. This was our second time staying at this property this year, and both times were absolutely wonderful.

A perfect getaway!
Our recent trip to visit out Son in Austin allowed us to visit this beautiful location. Big Bend had always been on my list of National Parks to visit but getting there was always the issue especially when you live in Maine. From my first interaction with Janet she was prompt with her responses to my questions and made me feel valued as a potential guest. I am so happy we decided to stay at this location for it allowed us to fully experience all this region has to offer. The home was exactly as described, the communication with Janet exceptional at check in, and we definitely will return. In fact, it was far better than I would have expected for seeing is believing. Wonderful to disconnect, understand the local culture, and appreciate once of the last frontiers in this country that I hope never changes.

We had a wonderful time. The property is great and secluded. We were able to relax on the porch and screened in patio where we ate most our meals. The space was great for my husband and I and would be great for a small family. We spent a lot of time in Big Bend and the drive to and from is very scenic. We would definitely come back again and stay at this location.

BEST PLACE ever!
WE loved this house. It's got a great porch! Amazing View! wonderful. Its about 30 miles from the park, the only trouble. but worth it. one day we didn't even drive in, just stayed at this great place. Quiet. Peaceful. clean!

Terrific Big Bend Getaway
We had a wonderful long weekend staying in this house and hiking Big Bend. The house was perfect - comfortable, private, beautiful views, dark at night. We grilled and cooked each night, and the house was well stocked with everything you need. It is a little over an hour drive to the Chisos Basin hiking spots, so take that into consideration, but unless you are camping you are still going to be 30 minutes away and won't have the privacy and beautiful views that this house offers.

Stunning & Peaceful!
As a last minute trip to the Big Bend, this house was more than what we could have asked for. The host gave detailed and helpful directions on how to get to the secluded heaven, and the surrounding mountains and clear skies make it worth the drive. It was stocked with everything we needed for a long weekend, and our favorite spot to sit was the sunroom. Thanks again for having us!

Perfect House in Terlingua Ranch
We spent 4 nights at this location and enjoyed every moment. It was perfect for 2 couples looking for a quiet getaway. The house had a rustic feel with nice upgrades. We enjoyed a feeling of seclusion with town 35 mins away. The front porch and screened porch were wonderful for enjoying morning coffee and dinner. We utilized the fire pit one afternoon and had a blast. Despite the remote location, the WiFi was top-notch (though there was no reason to be on devices). If you are looking for a private, comfortable location, this is the spot. The owner communicated in a timely manner and was super-friendly. You can't go wrong staying here.

Wonderful experience
This was a lovely place. It is a bit of a drive from Terlingua but once there, it offered us a place of great respite. We especially loved the porch on the front of the house and the screen porch where we spent much of our time. The setting is beautiful. The owners were very responsive and we loved our experience here.

Fabulous Sunrises and Outdoor Living!
We had a very nice stay at The Getaway! The home is on the small side, but feels more spacious due to the high ceiling and the open layout of the kitchen, dining and living areas. We spent most of our time on the covered porch or on the screened dining porch. The breezes are amazing! NOTHING beats the night sky here! Turn off all lights to the house and the stars pop out. There’s even a telescope in the home for stargazing! Bring books or other things to keep you occupied in your downtime as there is no TV. One thing to keep in mind is power outages are possible and we experienced a 7-8 hour outage our first day. The home has non potable water from a rain catchment system and a pump moves the water to all faucets and the toilet. No electricity equals no lights OR water. Flashlights, food and drinking water are HIGHLY recommended. There is a propane grill that was nice to have during the outage. There is a drinking water dispenser in the kitchen, but again, it’s electric, so plan ahead. This home is 10 miles down Terlingua Ranch Rd, which was a negative for us, but may be a plus for others. Once on the highway, the trip to Terlingua and the Chisos Basin are a relatively easy trip. There was nothing to spray down the counters after cooking. We spilled water on the kitchen floor and when we wiped it up the paper towel was pretty dirty, so it could’ve been cleaner. There were spiderwebs, but I guess that’s to be expected in the desert. I knocked off a cleanliness star because of these things. All in all this is a great rental if you’re looking for seclusion, peace and quiet.

The power outages were unfortunate and not at all typical. They were for the entire area, not just the house. We are replacing the water dispenser after reading your review. It never dawned on us that it would not supply water during a power outage. We spoke with our cleaners about the floor and the spiderwebs. We had a maintenance guy in the house after it was cleaned to fix a problem with the sink. Apparently he made a bit of mess on the floor. The spiderwebs had been cleaned out, but returned. The spiders have now been eliminated.

The Perfect Desert Getaway
Stepping out of our comfort zone we booked this property. It was perfect! Everything was clean and exactly as listed. We didn’t have to bring anything which was even better! The grill was clean and full of propane. Plenty linens and a fully functioning and stocked kitchen. We hiked up the mountain behind our property. The night sky was gorgeous. Hearing the coyotes at night rounded out the desert experience. We even saw a javelina. Easy 45 min drive to Big Bend National Park and 35 min to Terlingua for our river trip. Made for an incredible family vacation.

Cute and secluded stay
We really enjoyed our stay here. The property was just the perfect size for two adults and two dogs. We hung out in the front porch and watched the sky full of stars on the hammock. Half way between Alpine and Big Bend, great location.

Great Location no matter your trying to do
This is a great location. From sitting on the front porch listening to the wind blow and the birds, watching rabbits and everything else just live life. It was amazing to get away from the world. Your close enough to so many things to see and do. We were only there 4 days but spent everyday full and almost never did our plan and had an amazing time. We love everything about the stay, the location, the people who were all friendly. If you want to get away from everyone and spent time watching the world this is a great place.

Quiet and unique
We had a great stay which made me to fall in love with West Texas. This house and surrounding area is very well worth your time to cool down and recharge. House is small, but very spacious at the same time. Screen porch overlooks one of the most beautiful mountains around. Property is well maintained and has great cooling. Sunrise is one the view you will never forget. Certainly recommend and perhaps will be coming back sometime.

Beautiful location
This is a simple house in a stunning location. It has some drawbacks, however. For example, the dining area is on a slightly different level from the living room and the kitchen is slightly higher than the hall. These can be tripping hazards. The shower is narrow, which would not suit some people, though it does an excellent job of conserving water, which is important in this desert environment. Chipped or cracked dinnerware was a drawback, but the house is stocked with a blender and other useful items. The house is off a dirt road that is no problem in an ordinary rental car unless you are unaccustomed to that kind of driving. We did enjoy our stay. Eating on the screened in porch (weather permitting) affords gorgeous views of the desert. The drive to Big Bend is 30 miles and then some depending on what part of the park you plan to visit. The hosts sent a long document admonishing us to do this and that, all of which we did but did not find particularly friendly. Too bad, because it is a nice place in a gorgeous spot.

Beautiful, quiet stay near-ish Big Bend
My husband and I stayed with a friend for three nights at this lovely getaway off the beaten path! Full kitchen and the bedroom plus the nook was enough room for three adults. Loved sunrise and sunset on the porch and dinners in the screened in patio. It is about an hour and fifteen minutes to Chisos Basin in Big Bend, but worth it if you want to get away from it all!

Wonderful getaway!
This well appointed and comfortable property is a great way to get away from the hustle and bustle. Keep in mind it is about an hour drive from Big Bend National Park main entrance which is a little confusing as the word Terlingua is used for both the ghost town and the Terlingua ranch area. Still, we had an amazing stay, had great nights with stargazing, and saw some wildlife near the property. I would definitely recommend this!

Remote Getaway with Views
We loved the location of this property for it's remoteness. The views are spectacular and hiking is just outside our door! We enjoyed quiet nights in the hammock, reading on the porch, and nearby hiking. This was a great place to unplug and reconnect with nature.

Desertion
Exactly what we wanted. A get-away from urban chaos and stress. The lack of technology was a blessing - eliminated the worry of checking phones and provided the perfect opportunity to enjoy each other and the serenity of the area. Views, especially the sunrise, were amazing and the space as described. We especially loved the enclosed patio - great spot for a nap, book, glass of wine. With the wait and the drive! Wish we’d stayed a night longer.

Lovely Big Bend Getaway
Our family of five, including three small children, had an excellent Big Bend getaway and we could not have done it without this gorgeous home. It was perfect for what we were looking for (daily Big Bend excursions and comfy, clean, and secluded place to sleep). We would definitely stay again on any of Janet and Daryl's homes. Secluded, homey Pueblo style home with beautiful views.
Rented to watch the Perseids meteor showers and be away from city lights. Perfect place for it if it wasn’t monsoon season! And if there wasn’t a full moon! Would be an incredible place to watch fall or winter meteor showers. Big Ben was close and beautiful to explore. Small, historic town of Turlingua was interesting.

Beautiful & relaxing retreat
I cannot say enough wonderful things about our stay. My husband and I came here with our 2-year old and our 2 dogs. It was so beautiful and peaceful; it seriously revitalized my soul. To the landscape, to the beautiful night sky, to how well the home is maintained; it was just what we were looking for! I can't wait until we can visit again!

Secluded, country heaven
We had a bad tire on our car. Since we were a long way from town we were worried about getting it fixed. We called Daryl, the manager ,and he had someone come out to plug the leak immediately. We feel lucky to have stayed at this vacation home.
