"Was left stranded outside the gate with no access no instructions. Gate would not open even though wr drove up to it. Phone lines dead. Had no option but to drive away feeling very sad and extremely dissapointed. Drove off into the dark desert looking for a last minute booking which ended up being 1.5 hours drive away. Management said no refund once they finally contacted us in a new telephone number that neither us or hotels.com had been provided with. Still waiting for some sort of apology...

"Staff and guides were all excellent and thoroughly enjoyed the drives. Lodge and food also excellent and we met some fantastic people, however we very very disappointed with our accommodation. We had expected an individual lodge in a private and peaceful setting however we were situated in a lodge attached to another lodge just above the main lodge and kitchen block. So we could constantly hear noise of the kitchen preparations, plates and bins being emptied and staff singing and talking rather...

"Bukela is a beautiful stay, facilities are great, friendly staff and our ranger (Sim) was very knowledgeable. Foodwise is really below average, just not good especially for a 5* resort. It felt like diner was prepared during the day and heated up in the evening, just not fresh. Breakfast was really poor. Only meal that was good was the lunch. No snacks during the day. Due to this matter i will not likely to visit Bukela again nor reconmend to anyone which is regretful as the staff and facilities...

"A really lovely and relaxing place to spend a few days whilst visiting the game reserves. Very attentive staff, a large and comfy bedroom A lookout deck, pool, hammock and outdoor seating area are all lovely, and would be fabulous in warmer weather. Three course dinner (set menu) was delicious and all home-prepared on site. The dining room is also very nice, and we were seated right by the fire - very welcome in August. Woodbury Lodge - Amakhala Game Reserve

We spent 2 nights at Woodbury Lodge shortly after a 4 night stay in Sabi Sands, and were really glad that we did! The lodge is nicely located on a hill, very comfortable and with great views and throughout our short visit we were continually impressed by the service and friendliness of the staff. Our first drive shortly after we arrived was super! We really wanted to see a Cheetah (didn’t find one in Sabi Sands) and with Brad our guide we managed to see one. Exceptional property, design, and experience with top hospitality. The common areas are picture-perfect overlooking small waterholes frequently visited by playful warthogs, curious antelope, and brightly colored birds while you eat breakfast and lunch. The villa interior surprised us in every corner from little aesthetic details, unexpected offerings in the cupboard, local bedtime stories at turndown, or staff leaving wine and glasses by the bathtub our first night. Great hotel tucked away high in the Zuurberg Pass, with awesome views of the valley and Addo Elephant NP. The hotel was built last century, and has the charm of an African Safari Lodge. The staff have been working there for years, and are great for whatever you need. Nice gardens to walk around. It's a little remote, but an excellent and wonderful get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Truly, a five star experience that went above and beyond expectations because of Ranger John! He is an expert level two ranger; has deep knowledge of the nature and history of the land is completely unparalleled! There are many times where he was able to see animals that no one else could see because of his 40 years of experience in the bush. On one of the game drives, he smelled a carcass, and we went to explore the carcass and subsequently which led us to who hidden lions that were finished...
