I’d booked months before & selected the larger self catering apartment w/out breakfast rather than the smaller room with breakfast as we had an early flight & needed the space to rearrange our bags. Arrived to be put in a small room that wasn’t self catering. Questioned it with the very nice lady who welcomed us & she called her boss who said on the phone that I’d booked ‘the last room available’ and was pretty sharp with me saying that there was definitely no self catering apartment available when I booked & that Expedia was always showing rooms/# of people availability that wasn’t correct. it wasnt worth arguing for one night! Having worked in hotels in the past I know that Expedia shows whatever you as the owner/manager of the property add to it, so she maybe is just struggling with that side of things and/or had me confused with some other customer, but it was a bit annoying to not get the room we paid for - if the room type genuinely was booked in error, she had weeks to message me about it & explain. Room we were in was nice enough, although it was small & the lady present at the property gave us plates & cutlery etc so we could eat the food we'd planned to. They did offer us breakfast but we didn't take it as we had to catch our flight. This would be a great place to stay if they could ensure that customers get what they book, but with that uncertainty i wouldn't recommend it.

The room is big and clean , but does not have any view. The hotel in a good and active area, staff are nice and welcoming. Breakfast is poor , if you choose to stay overthere you can take your breakfast at any restaurant arround. Overall is good.

Needs to be cleaned

It was ok . Mattresses need to be changed they are old and worn out . Place needs to be cleaned. The fan had a thick layer of dust on it and so did the table's .

Great lodge in Umhlanga (Durban).

The Flamingo Lodge was great! Just a few minutes walk to Umhlanga Rocks beach and the famous Whale Bone pier. Surprisingly, it is really close to the Umhlanga action and restaurants, but peaceful inside. The Staff was great, they were quick to do anything that needed doing and had access or instructions for the various activities in the area. They even helped out with the 2 year. I will certainly stay again!

Geoff and Di were gracious hosts. They have a wonderful guest property and make you feel at home. They gave us great suggestions on places to go to eat and to see.

Beautiful private area. Very warm and welcoming hosts. My friends and I booked to stay on NYE, best decision ever as it’s a walking distance to the village &beach. I’d definitely book there again.

Lovely Place

The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. They were around for anything needed and have ready answers for questions about the area and transport etc. The rooms are clean and comfortable, I had a great stay there. Location is good, depending on where you need to be. Safe area and restaurants nearby.

Umhlanga Stay

Good facility, issue was that the aircon control was not operational, had to use the ceiling fan. Situation of this particular room which was off the lounge area was not great as you are awakened by the people getting the breakfast ready

Nice B&B inn close to beach

Very quaint and comfortable. Liked location and how the Flamingo Lodge was set up. Quiet dead end street. Walked to beach, restaurant, bank.

Decent guest house

Despite unusual driving directions provided on the hotel's website we managed to find this place by using a GPS app downloaded to the phone and pulled in to the security gated parking area. We lugged our suitcases up the stairs to the foyer and looked for a member of staff. After a few minutes we found someone in the kitchen who was surprised that we were there. We were given a welcome drink of juice as we signed in, then lugged our suitcases back down the stairs as we were on the ground floor (advice to folk - leave the bags in the car until you know where your room is). Our room was spacious with a great sitting area, kitchenette and double bedroom. Our son was sleeping on the sofa bed which was neither the most comfortable nor the least that he has had in a hotel. There's an honesty bar and we had a gin and tonic and shared a bottle of water whilst playing a game on the balcony upstairs. This was queried by the owner the next morning and we still don't know why. Breakfast was good with fresh fruit, cooked breakfast and coffee/juices etc. My wife wasn't well and the owner was really helpful in finding us a pharmacy to sort her out. Hooray for pharmacists across the world.
