Staff and general vibe here was amazing. Super nice and helpful getting me to and from the train station. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking of a comfortable place to stay!
I really enjoyed the stay.
All the rooms and facilities are clean.
Staff are super friendly and enjoyed the casino night activity on Wednesday night.
I strongly recommend this place if you cone to Gunma.
One of the best hostels have stayed at. Very clean, modern, beautiful kitchen. Great staff. However, there are challenges if you do not have a car. The distance to the train station going into the city is really quite a walk. Taxis are not always available. So I advise you MUST make arrangements for staff to pick you up at the train station and you must make arrangements at least one day in advance. They need to arrange to have an extra person on staff in order to be able to pick you up. There is a huge grocery and convenience store a short walk away. But not much to do entertainment-wise in this small neighborhood.
I had one night of Accommodation to book the night before I flew to Japan for a Business/Holiday trip. Staying here was the best last minute decision I have made.
Clean, comfortable, quiet dorm rooms, a short distance from the train station, a kitchen with everything you could need, a bar with cold beer and amazing staff that go above and beyond! I walked from Gunma station, the free drink ticket was very nice!
I spent 3 nights before hand at a premium hotel in Nagoya for work, (above the station, much expensive!), and I think Matoi Hostel is as good or better.
My Japanese language skills are very poor, but it was no problem to talk and make friends. Next visit to Japan I will definitely be coming back, I promise with much better Japanese skills.
My only regret is not staying longer.
