Very comfortable beds and a great price. I’ve stayed twice now and enjoyed myself each time. Delicious affordable breakfast too.

Interesting building and good value for money

This hotel is dressed up to look nice, but lipstick on a pig is still a pig. One elevator was out during our 4 night stay and this is a 7 story hotel. The working elevator could fit 5 people if there was no luggage, so lots of waiting for the one working elevator. The bathroom was newly remodeled but you couldn’t sit on the toilet without moving sideways as the counter was too close. The shower curtain on the shower stall did not go to the floor so there was water on floor every day. No tub. Portland St is not for through traffic but buses and taxis, so can be loud with bus and people noise. The staff is minimal and not helpful. Whetherspoons is nearby and much cheaper for breakfast than the hotel. Opens at 8 am and is very quick. This was my first trip to Manchester and I chose this hotel due to its central location and proximity to our day tour pick up at the train station, but it is kind of a sketchy area due to its proximity to Piccadilly Gardens. Lastly the taxi button in the hotel didn’t work which was tragic as we waited 20 minutes for a taxi to the airport which never came. Just hail a cab on Portland or even better use Uber because it is cheaper. Of course the staff didn’t bother to give us this advice as they barely look up from their phones at the front desk.
