Reserved two cottages for 4 adults 6 kids (20-14 yrs old). 4 of our were kids were home from college for Christmas/New Years break and we were looking forward to spending quality time together.
Owner Jason initially moved us into wrong property. We had grocery shopped, unpacked, made cocktails and the kids had showered. Jason called a few hours later to say he had moved us into the wrong cottage! The 10 of us scrambled to move out because the original renters were on their way. We and sat and waited for Jason in the one cottage that was not double booked. We later learned the second cottage we were supposed to be in had a long term resident that had been there for months already. Jason said he didn't know how it happened, and blamed it on the HomeAway website. I had emailed him before booking to double check it was avail., and he said it was. Jason tried to move 5 people in our our group down the street on his cheap dime into two tiny, rundown,outdated motel rooms. We declined and he then found a nicer 1 king and 1 twin, (bc of holiday the whole area was booked to near capacity and we were desperate for a clean non cockroach resolution). Our adult kids had to sleep on air mattresses, but at that point we were in a pinch and we needed something nearby.
It was a mess and waste of our first day there. He promised to "make it right" and reimburse us the FULL amount for all our trouble, realizing the huge inconvenience and the point was for the 10 of us to be together. Additionally, he offered us the use of a golf cart to get our group back and forth. He never reimbursed us the full amount for all the trouble, failed to deliver on the golf cart and he is dodging telephone calls and emails.
The point of the trip was for the 10 of us to stay together and we paid thousands of dollars for a nice vacation. It turned out to be a huge hassle and Jason lied about "making it right" like he promised. He kept telling the men in our group "man to man, I'll make this right". Not a man of integrity and character. BUYER BEWARE!!!!! Even if you inquire about availability before booking through HomeAway you might be without a rental when you arrive.
