Great location and amazing view

Perfect for our family of four. Check in was effortless, new mini split air conditioners made for comfortable sleeping and kitchen was well equipped. Coolers with iIce packs and beach chairs with snorkeling equipment made our beach excursions all the more enjoyable. Quiet location, did I mention the amazing views?

Fantastic Views

This property was spectacular. It was extremely clean and had all the amenities needed. The screened in porch provided an amazing view with no mosquitos. The location was convenient to Coral Bay for restaurants and groceries. We appreciated the beach chairs, cooler, and towels. We can't wait to return.

Great getaway in St John

This property is gorgeous! The view is just amazing and sunrise is to die for! We've rented a good amount of VRBOs over the years and I have to say that Jake, the owner, was by far the most responsive host we've ever had. The home is very nicely decorated and in great condition and was the perfect size for our family of four. We didn't want to leave!

Beautiful Escape

Wonderful Stay in a beautiful spot… house was clean and the AC was nice to have in the evenings. The deck has stunning views and is a great spot to relax after a long day! It wasn’t a problem for us.. but floors are separated and need to be accessed by outdoor stairs. Doors can’t be locked. It is a very safe island, so it didn’t bother us, but you should know this if it would present a problem for you. We’ll be back!

AMAZING GETAWAY!

My husband, 17 year old twins and I just returned from a fabulous stay at Coconut Hill Cottage. This was our first trip to St. John. The accommodations were excellent and Sue and Bob are very friendly, gracious hosts! Their recommendations on hiking, beaches and dining were very helpful. The amenities were great. It was so nice having beach chairs, a cooler, beach towels, etc. Coral Bay is more relaxed and quiet than Cruz Bay but very convenient to the breathtaking beaches. I highly recommend Coconut Hill Cottage for anyone looking to stay in Coral Bay!!

Beautiful views, relaxing stay.

My husband and I, our two little boys 2 and 5 years old, father and mother in-laws all stayed at this beautiful property. Plenty of room for us all to have space and very clean. Having a washer and dryer was great for packing light and a full kitchen meant that we could eat breakfast and lunch at the villa. We utilized the beach chairs, umbrellas, coolers and sand toys which was very convenient. Netflix for the kids in the mornings and evenings was great. Views are breath taking. You'll be very happy booking this property!!! Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Beautiful views, excellent place to stay

We had a wonderful time in St John, partly because of this wonderful home we got to come back to each night. The pictures don't do the villa justice, it is incredibly beautiful and perfectly decorated. The views are spectacular from the screened porch as well as the loft bedroom (great for sunrises). The home is stocked well with most anything you could need while there. We enjoyed the small cooler, beach towels and chairs as well as the books up stairs that helped us better navigate the island and determine which fish we had seen that day. The property is extremely secluded and private. It was so nice to be on the quiet side of the island. Would highly recommend to anyone!

Breakfast in Paradise

Our stay was just perfect. Jake was so helpful as we prepared for the trip and took great care to ensure we were settled and happy once we arrived. A big thanks to Gwen for escorting us to the cottage, the tour of the property and responding to our every need. The home Is lovely. Our family of 5 enjoyed breakfast on the screened in porch every morning. I had to pinch myself as the view, my gosh the view, is from a storybook. We spent most of our days touring the island and checking out the beautiful beaches but it was always so nice to come home to such a comfortable home away from home. We made lots of memories here and hope to return again. Thank you Jake and Sarah!

St John trip

Your cottage is beautiful and the view amazing. The kitchen well stocked, the furniture beautiful, the decorations charming and the towels soft. The Lani a wonderful place to read and eat. There were plenty of books and St John guides. Lienster, Maho and Salt Pond were just 15 min away. We snorkeled and saw turtles, rays, squids, an eel and and sea star. At Haulover Bay, Drunk Bay and at the bay at Lucy's we found shells, sea urchins, coral, sea fans and some sea biscuits. With Prirate Penny, in the BVI, we crawled over granite boulders and snorkeled the Indians, which were filled with sea life.

Perfection!

We stayed at coconut hill cottage and fell in love with the place. The master bedroom was downstairs and had air conditioning but after one night in the loft we never slept anywhere else. The sounds obf the night around us cooled by the peaceful breezes we couldn't have slept better. We found the restaurants had more atmosphere than the ones in Cruz Bay and the food was fantastic! Our favorite was Shipweck Landing. We were centrally located for all our hiking and snorkeling and only had to drive into Cruz Bay for food a few times which gave us the opportunity to see all the views of St John. The road up to the cottage only seemed steep the first time and was fine. This was our 4th trip to St John and we love it more than ever.

Beautiful views and nice breeze on Bordeaux Mountain

The house is located on Bordeaux Mountain in Coral Bay, you will need a 4x4 vehicle to get up to the Villa. The villa was clean and well stocked. We didn't even need to use air conditioner because of the nice breeze on the mountain. The pool was nice to use on days when we got too much sun at the beach. All the foliage around pool protected us from sun. Jake was wonderful to communicate with and checked in with us upon arrival via text. There was also a nice bottle of wine and cheese and crackers waiting for us upon arrival. Restaurants are right down the hill. I loved drinking my coffee in screened in porch area every morning. The view was amazing.

Beautiful Island House - Best View on St. John

This house has the best down island views, is beautifully decorated, and unbelievably comfortable. We absolutely loved our week long stay. The only rainy day we had was spent on the screened in porch - reading, relaxing, and enjoying the views. The rest of the days were spent scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming, hiking and of course eating great food. Sweet Plantains, Skinny Legs, Donkey Diner, Island Blues, and Miss Lucy's are all just down the hill. Chateau Bordeaux is open again - serving dinner by reservation - and isn't too far a drive either. St John is truly a spectacular island for those that enjoy the beach, the water, and other outdoor activities! Susan and Bob are really great hosts, and provide the perfect amount of island information upon request. We also really liked that they are on property, but not visible - plenty of tropical vegetation provides plenty of privacy.

Coconut Hill

Coral Bay is where you want to be when you visit St John. It's the quiet side of the Island, the scenic side, the non-turist side, the side right next to the North Shore Beaches which are why you should go to St. John's in the first place. On a clear day from the porch on Coconut Hill you will be able to see to Virgin Gorda and beyond. At night you will look across to the lights of Tortola. Having the owners as your next door neighbors can benefit you in many ways as it did us when our rental car pulled up lame on a late rainy night. What could have easily turned into a two day dog and pony show was quickly resolved by owners Bob and Susan with one phone call. Enjoy.

Just perfect

We had quite an adventurous first trip to St. John and I couldn't have been happier with Coconut Hill Cottage. Everything felt super considered and comfortable and clean. The view is truly out of this world, and the screened in porch was heavenly. The breezes were beautiful and kept the house very comfortable. The pool was fantastic to dip in during the hottest parts of the day when we weren't at a beach. We happened to be there while Hurricane Dorian was developing and Jake was in constant communication with us, giving us updates and letting us know what to do. He was tremendously helpful and we felt well taken care of. Luckily it passed St. John without too much damage. The power did go out in parts of Coral Bay but the power did not go out for us, the house has solar panels and a Tesla powerall which kept us going all day and night. Overall, it was the perfect location and we'd go back and stay here again in a heartbeat.

Second visit even better than first!

Our first visit to Coconut Hill was the week before Christmas 2011 along with our adult children as a family getaway. Sue and Bob were fantastic providing all the inside information on the island. The pictures do not do justice to the views. We snorkeled each day and then returned to sleepy Coral Bay for drinks and a bite to eat. There was plenty of room so everyone could have privacy if they wanted. We spent most of our time in the huge screened porch or the deck by the pool. We enjoyed our stay so much that my wife and I returned for our 35th anniversary this June. Coral Bay was even more quiet in the off season and the privacy of Coconut Hill, you cannot see any other homes, was appreciated. The pool was the perfect temperature, so when we were not snorkeling we were in the pool. Even slept out by the pool one night. For a couple the cottage is a great romantic getaway. Our daughter is strongly considering it for her honeymoon. We give Coconut Hill our highest recommendation and look forward to visiting again

Wow!!!

My wife and I chose the Coconut Hill Cottage for our honeymoon and first stay on St. John. The house was exactly as described, if not better. Due to Sue and Bob's numerous provided conveniences and amenities (down to the anti-itch bug bite treatment), it did not feel as though you were staying in a rental of a stranger, rather a home of a friend. The house was immaculate, the furniture was comfy and the appliances worked well. Despite all of these fabulous aspects, we could hardly tear ourselves away from the large screened-in-porch that provided one of the most impressive views we found during our travels on St. John. Sue and Bob were incredibly friendly, helpful and a pleasure to work with. If you are traveling to St. John, the assumption is you want to get away from the hussle-bustle of everyday life. Coconut Hill Cottage could not be a better place to do just that and we highly recommend it to everyone that makes the trip. Josh & Emily Romine

Beautiful views- worth the climb up the mountain

A great property- updated, freshly painted, well apportioned. A 4 wheel drive is a must (without it you may not have enough traction to climb the hills especially if it's raining), but the views are stunning. Both bedrooms with air conditioned are located downstairs, accessed via an outdoor staircase- no problems at all using the outside staircase, still very private. The pool is lovely (we didn't find it cold as mentioned by other reviews- nice temp and refreshing). Great gas grill- cooked several dinners on it, poured a glass of nice wine, and watched the sun tuck behind the mountains- gorgeous and breathtaking. Parking is tight if someone else is staying at the lower cottage. Although completely private spaces, you do share parking. Once you get used to it, it isn't a problem. We love the Coral Bay side of the island and keep returning to it time and time again. Our time at Coconut Hill was wonderful, if not too short. Can't wait to get back.

Girls Trip (Mid 50s)

A beautiful property with a clear view of Coral Bay. The screened porch was our favorite hang out spot and we all took an opportunity to wake up early and catch a breath taking sunrise. The site pictures are an accurate representation of the property. It was homey and beachy and we loved the setting. The pool is a little bonus when we wanted to cool off at the end of the day, Pauline and Tim (greeters), met up with us for a personal escort to the property. They were very responsive when we had questions and provided additional information on island activities. We had a bedroom AC go out and they were able to get it fixed the same day. Great service! Our one recommendation is to add signage just before or at the turn into the drive to Coconut Hill. We loved our girls trip and would recommend this location for a couples vacations, girls trip, etc. We definitely can't forget to mention the beaches. Some of the most beautiful beaches. The sand, the water, the cleanliness of the national park. It met all of our expectations.

Look no further...this is the place!

Seriously the most amazing views! The pics do not do the view justice. We stayed for 9 days at Bob and Susan's place and can't say enough of how perfect it was. We cooked every night with the exception of 1 when we went to Cruz Bay. I am sure there are some amazing restaurants but we loved this place so much we decided to enjoy the evenings on the screened porch with dinner instead. There are three markets to choose from close by...Calabash seemed to have the freshest produce and fish for grilling but was a little bit further down the road. Worth it if you want fresher produce. Buy ice before you arrive if you want cold drinks. There are only two ice cube trays so if you have a larger group, you may need more ice. We saw a lot of reviews about how cool the pool is, but we are from Michigan so it felt refreshing to us and not at all cold. This place has everything you need! It is VERY private also which was wonderful :) Having a hose was a bonus to rinse of snorkel gear and beach stuff. Also, a small vacuum to vacuum out the sand in the jeep rental (the car rental place will charge you an absorbent amount if you have sand in the jeep when you return it). We are already planning our second trip and will definitely be booking here next year! Seriously...stop looking, you will not be disappointed!

All you need plus an amazing view!

From the moment we booked the property to check out, everything went very smooth. Jake answered all my questions so quickly and provided me great suggestions! The property overall was just fine for the stay, nothing fancy, but after a long day at the beach, truly all we wanted was a place to shower, sleep and relax. I appreciated all of the beach towels, the beach chairs and cooler and having a washer and dryer was great. The view was outstanding. It didn't even look real! The price for the villa was very reasonable as St. John is a pricey place to vacation. The villa itself was well stocked with everything you would need for a trip to St. John and more (thank you for the wine and cheese!). It was clean and fairly comfortable. One bed was in the upstairs while the other two bedrooms were downstairs and you had to go outside to access them. It was fine, but with small children, I think this may have been a challenge (ours are 7 and 10). I loved the fact that there were 3 bathrooms! The driveway was really steep. I cannot imagine the navigating the driveway without a jeep. We did think the parking was a challenge with our big jeep but it worked and we survived. Everything is an adventure on St. John! We didn't really use the pool because we were at the beach so much and like others have said, it was quite cold but we were there in November. The location was great - very close to many of the famous beaches including Salt Pond Bay. Thank you for allowing us to stay at your Villa! Maybe we will be back some day!

Perfect for our Family... Despite the Drive

The Cottage on Coconut Hill turned out to be a perfect match for our family of five (two adults, boys ages 13, 17 and 19). Sue and Bob were great hosts, willing to offer advice when needed, but also allowing us privacy. The views are incredible, and one of our challenges was pulling ourselves away each morning to begin exploring the island. We were also impressed with how well-equipped the cottage was. In addition to having nice appliances and dinnerware, the cottage comes with everything one needs to make a great beach excursion – chairs, towels, noodles for snorkeling, two coolers, etc. etc. We packed the car once and were set for the week. The layout of the cottage is a bit different than we’re used to in the states in that it is necessary to walk outside to go from floor to floor, but that’s part of the charm and fairly common in the islands. The bedrooms were well appointed, the mattresses and pillows comfortable. The cottage is also tastefully decorated and really adds to the relaxing vacation feel. I really don’t have any “cons” to report, but do believe that future renters should be aware of two facts. The drive to the cottage is rather harrowing for first-time visitors. We had arranged to rent a 4WD vehicle for our trip, but none were available when we arrived on St. Thomas. Our minivan struggled to ascend to the cottage on dry pavement. I’m not sure it would have made it following a rain. Secondly, be advised that – like everywhere on the island – it is necessary to conserve water. So, for example, there is only one source of drinkable water in the cottage, and renters are encouraged to minimize water usage in a variety of means. It only makes sense, but if you’re used to simply drinking from the tap, or flushing the toilet after each use, it requires some adjustment. I strongly recommend The Cottage on Coconut Hill and have no doubt we will stay here again if/when we return to STJ.
