Had a very nice stay at Neil's B&B on the way to the Scottish Borders. I was travelling alone with the dog and our single room was comfortable and with a lovely view. My late check in was managed professionally and breakfast was a nice treat. Would definitely recommend.

I really appreciated the welcome and genuine hospitality from the outset. My host in particular shared an ex military/RAF background adding to the quality of my stay. The standard of breakfast was excellent. The location makes the hotel an ideal staging post for journeys too and from the Scottish Hebrides. Also being dog friendly, I will definitely be coming back again. Overall - excellent.

Clean, decent-sized bedroom. Smallish shared toilet. Breakfast unfortunately only offered to be served 0800-0815hrs which might not suit everyone.

Neil is a phenomenal host who has thought of everything. And if you want to know about the history of Scotland or England or want to discuss it, you've come to the right place! He's incredibly knowledgeable about a variety of topics. He's also a tremendous cook and has a great sense of humor. And the view of Ben Nevis right out the window is to die for. We slept very well in the super comfortable bed and woke to the sound of chirping birds.

Although the accommodation was clean and comfortable, (the loo serving 3 rooms was tiny) the owner has rules which he outlines immediately eg shoes off, cars parked in a certain way, breakfast between 8 and 815. He also has particular views about society and politics which he is very ready to share, most of which we disagreed with. We found him to be too forthright and it generated some tensions. If you like politics, military history and conspiracy theories, this place is for you.

The Farm House is located in a beautiful and peaceful setting, but it is not very accessible for guests who do not drive and rely on buses and trains for transportation. It is about a mile and a half from the Farm House to the main road. My husband and I are both walkers and hikers, but even after reaching the main road, we found it too dangerous to walk along, as several people had warned us. We therefore had to rely on buses to take us to either Spean Bridge or Fort William. The owner was very kind and accommodating and generously gave us a ride to the train station at 6:30 a.m. for our 8:30 a.m. train - Breakfast was served only between 8:00–8:15 a.m., so he could not give us ride close to our train departure.

The internet worked well, but otherwise we found this stay frustrating. The check-in window is quite limited, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., which made arrival less convenient. We also found the host’s manner rather negative and some of the information he gave us was inaccurate. When he asked where we were traveling next, he corrected our pronunciation of the city and told us there was very little there to see or do. This felt unnecessarily discouraging and put a damper on our excitement, especially since the city turned out to be considerably larger than his and full of interesting places and activities. Guests are also required to remove their shoes inside, which I personally found uncomfortable in a house shared with the host and at least three other groups. My daughter ended up walking barefoot through the shared areas. Although the internet was good, the overall atmosphere was not welcoming enough for us to choose to stay here again.

The first thing I will say is I did not know we had booked a room with a shared bathroom. It didn’t say anything about this in the room details so I would say this was surprising and then you’re sharing with at least 3 rooms. When we arrived the host told me quite abruptly that I had parked in 2 spaces. The other guest had parked poorly and made it impossible to fit 2 cars in so I feel they should have spoken to that guest instead of having a grievance with us. The host is accommodating with dogs in allowing his garden space to be used and by providing poo bags, but they also expect your dog to be put into your car whilst you eat breakfast. They did allow us to leave the dog in our room on the 2nd day but only due to the fact the dog set off the car alarm several times whilst we tried to eat. The breakfast times are regimental and controlled as well - 8 until 8.15 to enter and that’s it. Never experienced such a controlled short time window to eat breakfast. I read so many comments about a great breakfast there but I found the bacon to be soggy and the sausages barely cooked. I have rated the place well in terms of what they’ve asked me on here but if there was a rating for hospitality then I would rate low. The guest should not be so controlled like this when trying to relax.
