Soulless and dystopian. In a street where people sleep on the pavement after dark there is nobody to see if you are followed through the entrance door.
At check-in the video screen looked like an advertisement, but was someone with a gaming headset in a remote location asking me to use a WhatsApp link to complete a form, which rejected my address and only accepts 'Brazilian' as nationality (a warning for international travellers).
I needed to take a selfie - which it also rejected, so I had to send document photos by WhatsApp. The attendant (who may work for a different company) was friendly, but unaware the lobby music was as loud as his voice so it was hard to hear what he asked.
He explained how to access the building at night. I was surprised this requires that I open my phone in the street to show a QR code to the entry screen. Pinheiros district has the most phone robberies in Sao Paulo and street banners warn the public about using phones in the street! I imagine the remote receptionist is unaware of this. The 'hyper modern' approach hasn't considered the practical realities of a complicated city!
It's unclear if there is anyone in the building to deal with security issues or urgent maintenance. I would prefer a slightly increased fee to have a human present in the lobby.
The room itself was clean and functional, but a polished concrete floor and no floor towel and only a paper sachet of shampoo that must be held in the shower add to the cold overall experience.
