A true hidden jewel in Costa Rica. Wonderfully helpful staff, very good food, auiet and gorgeous sunsets. Pool is nice too! We'll go back again.

I had an excellent stay at the Canal Grande Lodge. The staff were wonderful, really friendly and helpful and the hotel was spotless with large spacious rooms. It also had a lovely outdoor space with a pool and amazing views. A good option for those who are looking to stay close to San Jose airport but away from the busy streets of San Jose.

This is a place to come and relax. 12 rooms, clean and comfortable. Adult clientele, quiet but the owner, host and staff are most warm and welcoming. It's was a retreat in the mountains that I hope to visit again!

Extremely helpful concierge. Property is gated, guarded and feels very secure. Very clean, peaceful, and eco conscious. Loved the property and the aesthetics. Great experience all around.

Nice hotel with great views and a excellent staff the breakfast is very good.The rooms are very spacious and so are the bathrooms and they have big closets.

Very unique and nice place. Great service. Didn’t realize there was no ac, but it was doable. The bed was very solid.

The Canal Grande Lodge was not your typical chain hotel. It was beautiful and tranquil. The owner Rafael and his staff truly make you feel like family. When we needed transportation to our excursions Luis drove us wherever we needed to go and picked us up. The food was excellent and the service was exceptional. I would highly recommend staying if you want quiet friendly place to stay in Costa Rica.

This was our second time here. Last week my husband and I stayed there 7 nights and we enjoyed it very much. It's quaint, nothing fancy but very relaxing and personal service. Location is lovely, hill top with constant breezes and a lovely salt water pool. Highly recommended if you want an experience other than chain hotels.

Beautiful hilltop setting with 360 degree views. 12 rooms angled around beautiful outdoor pool. The owner and staff were very friendly and helpful. Dinner was excellent. Well done all around!

We had a wonderful Christmas week at Canal Grande Lodge! Raffael and his staff were excellent hosts who made sure we had everything we needed. The small hotel was quiet and beautifully situated. You could walk to restaurants and a few small local stores. We enjoyed Santa Margaritas down the street on 2 nights of our stay. If you know this is a small, local property that’s comfortably lived in and you don’t expect a palace for your shoestring budget, you’ll be very happily surprised by this little gem of a hotel!

A beautiful setting. The grounds are amazing! The room was beautiful, too. Parquet floor, antique wardrobe. Beware, though, there is no AC. By late morning, the room was getting rather hot.

Thank you Dear Bruce, for your nice message, We have an artisanal ventilation system through the little doors at the bottom of the window, possibly at some times of the day it is not enough, in this area of the country it is always very ventilated, but there are really hot days, thank you very much for your comment, we are happy to be able to improve our guests' stay every day

Die Canal Grande Lodge war für uns der ideale Start in unseren Costa-Rica-Urlaub. Die Lodge liegt etwas ausserhalb von San Jose und ist daher sehr ruhig. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Die Zimmer sind groß und individuell eingerichtet ( leider ohne Klimaanlage ). Von der Terrasse aus kann man einen tollen Sonnenuntergang erleben, der Pool ist sauber und einfach ideal. Zum Frühstück gibt es mehrere Varianten und das Personal ist bemüht einem jeden Wunsch zu erfüllen. Von der Lodge aus können alle Sehenswürdigkeiten in der Umgebung von San Jose, problemlos erreicht werden. Das Hotelpersonal unterstützt bei der Buchung von Ausflügen. Sollten wir je wieder nach San Jose kommen, werden wir dieses Hotel buchen!

This property is so tranquilo. It's such a nice place to relax. The staff is full of great people that are very helpful and kind. This is not your modern day hotel, there are some amenities that aren't available, but it felt like home for the time that we stayed there. The views were breathtaking and the hotel has a nice breeze flowing through at all times. It's a great place to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life!

I felt like Ernest Hemingway staying here, Cool pool, breakfast on the verandah's, overstuffed leather chairs around the conversation pit. This place is arty, and a welcome deviation from the corporate ugliness of US owned chain hotels. Stay here, support the locals in CR, there are stories to be told and written in this place.

This property was unexpectedly amazing! It is a quaint, safe, little microcosm in a busier less quaint town outside San Jose. It has amazing staff, fabulous service and such a wonderful facility! Beautifully decorated and really impressive place. Can’t recommend enough if you are needing to stay in this area!

We only stayed one night but wish it was longer! Beautiful hotel with a lovely pool and delicious breakfast. They also have a sauna which we didn't take advantage of but hope to come back some day. Quaint, small lodge with beautiful decor and comfy beds. I cant wait to return for longer!

The property is remote with fantastic views and a wonderful experience. The one small amenity that could be improved was the TV options. No service for “ live TV, news, sports etc. not local TV or international tv. That did not change the overall wonderful 3 nights stay. The restaurant within a short walk was also fantastic “Zingara”.. I will return to the Canal Grande for an stay.
