We stayed at the Sala Comacina house during the San Giovanni festival weekend. I can't believe it was available on short notice, since it's the perfect location to view the fireworks set off from Isola Comacina and to walk to the festival grounds for food and dancing (but not too close to be disturbed by excessive noise). The town of Sala Comacina is quiet and an excellent home base to explore the other nearby villages. Book this place now for June 2020!
The secure, private garage parking is a must-have in these Como villages and space for the car was generous. Tip: Rent as small a car as possible for the narrow lake-front roads. The pool, hot tub, and sauna spa facilities were a bonus, although they do need a small amount of maintenance (light out in sauna and hot tub temperature was low). The facilities are shared by the adjacent apartments, but we were often the only guests there or one other couple. I required internet for a few work meetings / video conference and it worked well from the main living level, but not the bedroom level or terraces. We used our laptop as a signal repeater which allowed us to browse the news on our devices over breakfast on the terrace.
The house itself is very spacious, and is pretty accurately matching the photos. Plenty of room for a family group to dine together inside or outside, sit together in the livingroom and have several private bathrooms. The front bedroom downstairs has a peek-a-boo view of the lake which is nice to wake up to. Two levels of large private terraces, but the sun chairs in the property photos were missing, as well as the washing machine which is listed in the amenities. The kitchen was very well stocked and we cooked several meals with all of the necessary pans, utensils, and basic spices. The built-in espresso maker appliance was probably my favorite feature of the house (besides the view) and made high-quality drinks with fresh beans, including cappuccino, flat white, and latte. Way better than instant Nespresso you typically find.
The property managers Barrie and Matteo were both very responsive. Although we had no problems during the stay, it was reassuring to have Matteo's cell number and access to him 24/7 if anything came up. Barrie selected some wines for us and arranged a special lakeside dinner reservation, which were both delightful.
All in all, a fantastic trip and a highly recommended property for a Lake Como vacation.
