"Was unable to contact reception before arriving at the hotel for an after hours check in (10pm). Was later (the next day) advised that reception was in fact, staffed until midnight however, during business hours (I called at 5pm to confirm) I was advised that reception is closed at 8pm and that I should call the reception number to be let in. I was very far from Box Hill so I called 9 times, went straight to a "no message can be left on this service". Expedia support team were unable to contact them as well. The hotel has since refused a refund and marked me as no-show. I think I made a calculated decision at close to 10pm by not being stranded at Box Hill of all places based on the information I had at hand, reception closes at 8, call us for after hours, no answer in repeated calls by both myself and Expedia. I will see if the ACCC see things my way otherwise I will accept their decision on who is at fault here. Shouldn't be an unreasonable request for a hotel to do what they said they will do and simply ensure your phone service works if you're advising out of town travellers to call before checking in after hours."
