Hedgehogs View – Luxury Underground Escape in the Heart of Mid Wales

If you are looking for a luxury yet one of a kind stay than Hedgehogs View is the place for you, nestled in the heart of rural Mid Wales with idyllic panoramic views to match- a few days away here really is a little piece of heaven.

Located near the bustling market town of Rhayader & a stones throw away from the ever popular Elan Valley, this Underground House is situated on a site of further luxury stays including Glamping Pods & Shepherds Huts yet still remains private for that relaxing getaway you have been promising yourself. Sleeping up to six guests over three ground floor bedrooms, Hedgehogs View can suitably accommodate a romantic getaway for two or equally welcome a family holiday or get together with friends.

Follow the charming path to the property entrance and greet yourself inside to the open plan area which really maximises the space on offer and ensures you don't miss out on a thing when holidaying with friends and family. The living area boasts a plush burnt orange sofa and from here you can either chill out with your feet up and catch up on your favourite series on the smart television or admire the one of kind emerald green kitchen. The kitchen area comes fully equipped with oven, hob and fridge with ice compartment, and microwave. Whether you have cooked up a storm or ordered in a takeaway there is space for six people around the dining table with the most comfy of dining chairs so that all guests can dine & raise a glass together.

With two plush king size rooms, the spacious master bedroom accommodates a unique (& Instagram worthy) free standing bathtub run over looking the view of the green fields and hills rolling into the the distance. On the warmer days open up the French doors to allow that fresh air to fill the room while you relax with that favourite glass of bubbly in hand. The second king room has French doors leading out onto the paved area outside & the additional bedroom is a bunk room hosting two single beds. The family bathroom comes complete with free standing sink basin with illuminated mirror, large shower & flushing WC.

If all this sounds fabulous, wait until you hear about the outside.. Hedgehogs View has its very own private hot tub on the spacious paved area, so you can sit back and relax in the bubbles an admire the stunning view of the valley below. If you enjoy alfresco dining, there is an outdoor seating area with fire pit, perfect for toasting marshmallows under the glorious evening sky.

This property is truly is a 'hidden' gem. Quirky, cosy and created just for you with all the unique features it has to offer.

Lovely stay

We really loved our stay and highly recommend it. Views are stunning. The house is stunning. A couple of things to note, the fridge is very small if you’re planning on self catering and there is very little space to put your clothes etc. some additional hooks throughout would be super helpful. We were really gutted that the goats weren’t out during our stay. They were there when we arrived and we didn’t see them again for the remainder and they were one of the biggest draws of booking. Apart from that it really is an amazing place and also highly recommend going on a pony treck with Alice at Lion Royal trekking.

48hrs at Hedgehog’s View

Such a beautiful place, we only had two nights here but the accommodation was gorgeous and stylish. The views were amazing and being able to enjoy them from the hot tub or the outdoor seating area with a fire made it even better. The hairy cows and evening visit from the goats were the added factor! We needed a break and hedgehog’s view certainly delivered.

Lovely weekend break

We stayed at Hedgehogs View for a weekend family birthday celebration. The accommodation was warm, comfortable and well equipped, with beautiful views on a clear day. The hot tub was lovely and warm, and was well used despite the chilly weather. We very much enjoyed our visit.

Novel but lacking

The property has novelty value and is in a beautiful location. Inside, the quality of the structure is impressive, and it was very clean. However, we felt that it was poorly equipped. All bedding was of high quality, but a couple of the mattresses were thin and worn. The smaller bedroom has no hooks for clothing. The bathroom has no toilet roll holder and the toilet paper was extremely cheap quality. In the kitchen, a towel rail is needed. A couple of wooden spoons are needed, oven glove, paper towel, etc. I appreciate that the architecture of the property makes it difficult to fit a fridge, but the one used is ridiculously small for a self-catering property.

The perfect break

Couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay, truly amazing. Perfect views, comfort and privacy was on point in the Hedgehog view lodge, had everything we needed. I surprised my husband here for his 30th birthday and he loved every second of it, Gemma was amazing and helped get me surprise balloons etc for arrival to make it that bit more special. Definitely will be coming back, contemplating a Christmas here because it’s just perfect.

This is our third year here and as soon as we get there we feel at peace it truly is our happy place. Luckily the weather held out this year and we enjoyed great walks and pony trekking. Hedgehogs view is a great place to stay, comfortable and the hot tub is great. We will definitely be back x

Girls Break

Hedgehogs View is beautiful just like the photos show. We really enjoyed our stay but wouldn't return as the beds and pillows were very uncomfortable. We unfortunately had rainy weather across all three days we were there so didn't get to enjoy sitting outside. This meant we had to sit inside when at Hedgehogs View and the sofa isn't very big so only just provides seating for 4 adults. I would recommend the property to others but would advise that 4 adults is the max and to bring your own pillows!

Awful bed

The bed has a wooden board all the way around it and the mattress was too small and too shallow so you could not sit on the bed and getting in and out hurt the back of your legs. The sofa wasn't big enough for us all to sit on it together. There was no handle for the grill and no fish slice to make a fried egg. The curtains didn't cover all of the window. The hot tub was lovely but there wasn't enough light to see the steps to get in and out of it at night, nor to see the path clearly when walking from the car. Only plus for me was the location.

Lovely accommodation with stunning views

We really liked the hobbit style hut. It was unique and quaint, like somewhere we had never stayed before. The views were amazing. The hut was finished to a high spec, although it was quite warm constantly. We couldn’t find a thermostat to turn the heating down. We did turn the radiators down but it didn’t make much difference and had to open the door to let in fresh air, which was not ideal with a dog and the surrounding grounds not being enclosed. Two of the three external doors were quite stiff to lock and we found that one of the doors didn’t lock at all and this has been unlocked before we got there and for the whole of our stay (it was in a bedroom we didn’t use and so didn’t notice this towards the very end of our stay). The hut had the majority of things we needed on arrival such as tea, coffee, sugar, milk and towels. Towels for the hot tub weren’t provided but the booking info did advise of this. We would stay again.

A little piece of heaven

Our two nights at Hedgehog View will stay in our hearts for the rest of our lives, First of all the idyllic setting is just simply breathtaking. Hedgehog view itself is beautifully fitted out and is just gorgeous, All be it very very warm inside with no way of turning the seating down of off, Given the beauty that greets you out of both bedrooms patio doors under normal circumstances it would have been an easy fix to just leave the doors open to let the air circulate, but unfortunately due to multiple wasp nests situated in the surrounds to all three entrances and with my friend being allergic to wasps it meant that wasn’t possible, So made for a really warm night. We did make the hosts aware of this and they said a pest controller would be out during the day, So as we couldn’t stay there and chill because of the wasps we spent out, And on arriving back the issue seemed to have been sorted. The only other issue was that the hot tub was only partially working (only the jets on one half were working) That issue also got reported and someone did come out to look very promptly, but they said an engineer would need to be called, But unfortunately that wasn’t resolved during our short occupancy. They did say we could have access to a hot tub on a different plot that was empty at the time, But that was awkward and inconvenient. Other than those two issues that did arise the only negatives I could say are that the main door arch cladding and the master bedroom outside door arch cladding are both starting to crumble and this really does effect the aesthetic of the outside of the property, And at this price point you’d expect details like this to be high on the agenda as it really does effect the overall first impression (second impression actually as the initial impression was WOW this place is gorgeous) The only other thing is more of a suggestion, The views are absolutely stunning but the curtains do not provide full privacy due to the arch’s and the curtains not being able to be fully drawn across, Maybe it would be possible to attach Velcro to the sides of the curtains and the arches so that they can be manipulated into place to give 100% privacy when needed. I know this may seem like a negative review but I guess we were just really unlucky that during our short stay the wasp and hot tub issues occurred resulting in us not getting the full wonder that we could have. Because let’s face it, those views are to die for, being greeted by goats as sit on the patio eating breakfast was a joy, Watching the birds of prey over the close neighbouring fields was spectacular, Watching the cows come up the hill every morning, All the little birdies that come say hi……. It really is a truely wonderful place, For me it would have been a 10/10 all day long were it not for said issues, The hosts really were on the ball and did do all they could to resolve the issues, it’s just due to our stay only being short it meant said issues pretty much effected the whole stay. But that said I’d still give it a 8 because it is just simply WOW and could so easily have been a 10+++ :)

Fantastic stay

Hedgehog View was the perfect place for our girls weekend, the views are fantastic, as was the hot tub and we enjoyed a brief visit from the goats! The house is cozy and well equipped and the location was perfect for walks such as Elan Valley and Hafren Forest. Would 100% recommend!

What a GEM

What an absolute GEM. Booked for 2 nights as a birthday treat, it exceeded expectations. Everything was as described, the location stunning, everything you wanted was there. Wonderful even with bad weather!

Beautiful location in the countryside, but close to all the amenities by car. Peaceful and cosy, it was so rainy and windy most of the weekend but we still had a lovely time and would visit again! The beds were comfy and the hot tub was lovely and warm.

Gorgeous scenery

Gorgeous place to stay, was a last minute booking on way home but so glad we picked it. Views are stunning and accomodation was too. Definitely would like to come back.Although have to say it is a little pricey, especially for a longer stay.
