"The check-in left me at the gate for 1.5 hours when the key code was not working. It took a while to reach someone on the contact numbers. On day 2 the key code for the main house was not working. It took even longer to get someone on the phone but they were unable to get assistance for 3 hours. I was between the door and my car for 3.45 hours. The temperature was a cold 41 degrees This ruined what would have been a good stay."

"We loved this campsite! Staff were welcoming and friendly, bungalow was clean and spacious with lovely views from the balcony. The site was lovely and peaceful in natural surroundings and beautiful scenery. River views from the pool area were just amazing. Pool area nice but we didnt get to use unfortunately. "The Breakfast was very good and fresh with plenty of options. Many types of pastries, fruits alternative milks. The front desk was very helpful and knowledgeable about the Douro Valley. The rooms had incredible views of the River. Rooms were spacious but were dated,they need a refresh. Bed was comfortable though. The area was good but you definitely need a car to see the rest of the valley and vineyards."

"We had the most wonderful stay here for 3 days over easter. The hotel is absolutely beautiful, every part of it is carefully thought out. The decor is gorgeous, rooms spacious with lovely high ceilings and it is immaculately clean. The grounds are stunning, service and staff exceptional, i cannot think of one negative thing about our stay. Breakfast was also excellent and dinner in the restaurant the same with very reasonable pricing too for a 5 star hotel. A couple of minutes walk away are a couple of pleasant local restaurants and if you have a car, lots of hikes nearby. We loved every minute of our stay and would return in a heartbeat. "

"We had a comfortable room with a patio overlooking the Douro River. Staff very friendly. The only negative from our point of view was the window from the shower into the room. The botton 2/3 rds are translucent and upper 1/3 clear. If a light is turned on in bathroom bedroom is lit up as well . Also the obvious privacy issues. Other than the the room , hotel , staff, bar and restaurant are great."

"We are a family of 5 with 3 kids under 12. We visited in March and it was very quiet/serene. Portovella has a beautiful view of the Douro. Riverside walk is just several steps down a hill. Photos don’t do it justice because it is so breathtaking in person. The comfort suite was the perfect size with 2 bathroom ensuites and a powder room. View from the suite was incredible. Just plan ahead if you’re staying on a Sunday as many restaurants were closed but we found a gem in Cinfaes - Sabores e Memorias where husband and wife cook for you and welcome you in. The pool was not yet open unfortunately since it was March but would have been an incredible view. There’s also a kids playground set which helps for the little ones and a small little fish pond. The property has beautiful lemon and orange trees. A full and delicious warm breakfast was served directly to your door. A very peaceful stay! Highly recommend."
