"Very nice hotel located on a quiet street but at the same time conveniently close to the busy downtown area. Location was perfect since it allowed us to get to the beach and the Sea Garden in just 3-4 minutes by foot. Breakfast was really good, with many options to choose from and satisfied children’s and adults’ tastes. Staff was friendly. Will definitely consider HUGO hotel for our next stay in Varna."

Ovech Castle lies in Provadia town in the northeastern Bulgaria, in Varna Province, close to the Black Sea. The medieval Bulgarian name corresponds directly to ovca = sheep. Ovech was key center of the First Bulgarian Empire with an important monastery at the modern village of Ravna, of the church consecrated in 897, and a major scriptorium of the Preslav Literary School. The rebel leader and subsequently emperor of Bulgaria Ivaylo defeated in 1279 a 10,000-strong Byzantine army near the city. During the Second Bulgarian Empire in the 14th century Ovech was the seat of a metropolitan. Ottomans captured Ovech after a long siege in 1388. In the 17th and 18th century Provadia /Turkish name/ was a commercial center of the Ottoman Empire and inhabited by many Jewish and Ragusan /Dubrovnik/merchants. The 16th-17th-century Dubrovnik-style church still stands in the nearby village of Dobrina.

"It was great for a short stay, only a 2 minute walk from the beach, there aren’t many shops or restaurants within walking distance, there is a restaurant close by, but only takes cash, so, ensure you have some. The hotel was great if you are looking for a couple of days on the beach. "

"I booked a room with a window and I was given a basement room that stunk of cigarette smoke and two tiny windows (30cms x 30cms) either side of a bulkhead. The windows let in dust and dirt from the street and also cigarette smoke from people smoking outside. When I mentioned that I had booked a room with a window, I was shown a 2/F room that should have been the one I booked but was told that I had to pay an extra 100 bucks. No thank you! The aircon worked well and the shower was nice with good pressure and hot water but the room needed a little refurbishment. Definitely not what I expected. The smoke was horrendous. My guess is that it had gotten into everything (bed, covers, cushions, curtains so it's difficult to get rid of the smell unless you rip everything out. "
