Casa Ambrosia: Unique Adobe Home with Mountain Views in a Beautiful River Valley
10/10 Excellent
"We decided on Casa Ambrosia for our 4th of July escape, and it was perfect! The home is tucked away from the little town of El Rito on several acres with a view of the Sangre de Cristo mountains in the distance. We only had a couple days of obscured views due to smoke from fires south and west of Santa Fe. The house was very cozy for the 2 of us and our 2 small dogs. The kitchen had all needed housewares for eating in, the gas grill was good size and very clean. Hot tub was nice. Sleep Number bed upstairs in the master bedroom was very comfy. The splitters used to cool and heat the house worked great in keeping us cool in 90 degree temps. This was one of the most peaceful, relaxing and quiet stays we’ve ever experienced. Our days were spent lounging after breakfast, reading, short hikes when it wasn’t too hot, napping, soaking in the hot tub, and streaming some movies. First 4th without the constant sound of fireworks at all hours of the day and night. Our dogs loved it!Grocery shopped before arriving so we ate many meals at the house. A couple day trips to the Ghost Ranch, the Monastery of Christ in the Desert (dirt road, one lane for most of it - monastery was ok, but the canyon drive had incredible views and beauty), and stopping for light snacks and beverages at the Abiquiu Inn was great. Also spent an evening for dinner at the hot springs in Ojo Caliente, 20 min. from El Rito."
La Biblioteca: Eclectic Cottage in OKeeffe Country
10/10 Excellent
"An artistic retreat in Georgia O'Keefe country. Very comfortable. Close to Ghost Ranch (great hikes), beautiful sunsets with a view of Pedernal, country quiet."
"This place is truly special. The home is exactly as described- spotlessly clean, peaceful, and the perfect place to slow down and unwind. The setting along the Rio Chama is absolutely magical. We loved spending time in the hot tub, gathering around the fire pit, and sitting by the little beach along the river, listening to the water and taking in the incredible sense of calm. Inside, every detail has been thoughtfully chosen. The décor is beautiful without feeling fussy, the kitchen is well stocked. . It was clear that a great deal of care went into creating such a welcoming space. This was one of those rare places that leaves you feeling rested long after you’ve left. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay and hope we’ll have the chance to return someday."
"I don’t want to write this because I loved this place and don’t want it booked when I return. Tranquil, artistic and glorious views. If you need, want or desire an unwind this is one of those places. Bring your sketchbook, or paints as there is plenty of material around."
"The host was beyond accommodating. Very nice guy and made sure our visit was th best. I'm an astrophotographer so I booked the house because of the night sky. My pictures are amazing, I can't get any where near the detail from my Phoenix suburban home."
"The only issue was a clogged sink in bathroom which we reported and was never taken care of until our third day. We reported it on our second day at breakfast to our waitress and she said she would take care of it. Unfortunately if she did anything we didn’t see a difference until another delightful lady came back to our room and undid the sink stopper and used a coat hangar to remove gross black crud. It was a nasty dirty job but she happily did it with a smile. My kind of worker. She was well tipped!"
