Hidden Gem in Thekkady Forests

The property is simply fabulous. The first impression whenyou enter the property is amazing. You cross over a bridge to reach reception. Enroute there are stairs to access bird zones. Rich lush green all over, lili pods, swans, etc. We stayed with family of teens and elderly parents. We had booked huts. The rooms were very comfortable and had all facilities you would expect. The nature and spice garden were truly amazing. Two suggestions for improvements 1. Only one downside is that to contact reception from room is a challange. No one responds when you call. 2. The checkout time is 10:30 am which is too early. Overall worth every penny

no accommodation or food for our driver. room was okay, no TV, no AC. service was slow The staff was not as helpful as we expected about the knowledge around the area. The stuff like slippers were a little dirty even after replacement, so not sure if they are reusing stuff.

Highly recommend this place! Beautiful resort tucked away in the middle of spice capital of the world. Staff is super friendly and very helpful, they are always there to help you and will go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable, on site traditional Kerala massages are available too. This is the place to cost, If you are looking for real Kerala traditional experience.

A gem amidst the spices

We loved the Spice Garden. It is a beautiful property set amidst hillsides growing cardamom and pepper, with attractive buildings and blossoming gardens. The staff are warm, friendly and helpful. And the local activities are great - we enjoyed a visit to a tea plantation and a wonderful walk in the Periyar nature reserve, both booked through the hotel. We would stay there again if we come back.

Awesome Property !

It was an excellent property nested in nature. Very well designed and furnished, our 2 cottages, one with a pool and other with a large patio were a treat to stay in.

Our stay at Shalimar Spice Garden was the highlight of our time in South India--we only wish we had booked more than just two nights! The setting is idyllic, the staff is lovely, the food is delicious, and overall it is an island of beauty and serenity. We cannot recommend it highly enough!

Wonderful oasis.

Absolutely lovely secluded venue with individual private bungalows. Very attentive staff, excellent food and adequate swimming pool and spa facilities. Would highly recommend for a stay in Thekkady.

Excellent.

Excellent. wonderful location. The Nature walk around the property is a must! Friendly staff. Very pretty hotel and good service. The 'Tiger Reserve' was a bit of a disappointment but still a nice visit but what really makes this place is the lovely town of Kumily and the Spice gardens all around. Wonderful. Really enjoyed our stay.

Great hotel in the midst of a spice garden

This medium sized hotel has roof thatched cottages at different levels. The hotel has its own spice garden, beautiful birds and animals. The surroundings are really serene and calming. The rooms are very aesthetic and you can sit out in your private verandah and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The restaurant too is pretty and serves good food. It is also close to a tiger sanctuary and an elephant farm. One can visit and enjoy elephant rides. The staff at the hotel are very helpful and service oriented. We really enjoyed staying in this hotel.

séjour très agréable dans cet hôtel, loin du bruit incessant de toutes les villes et villages de l'Inde, le restaurant est un des meilleurs que l'on a testé pendant notre voyage. nous n'avons pas essayé le spa qui était désert. la piscine était très froide et dommage que certains clients se croient à Disney land à se prendre en photo au milieu des bungalows sinon notre séjour aurait été parfait

Toll um sich zu erholen

Das resort liegt ausserhalb der stadt mitten in der natur. Die bungalows sind so angelegt, so dass man sich hervorragend erholen kann. Das essen ist sehr gut.

Only for the nature lover

The fan wasn't working in the room we were shown, so we were upgraded to a cottage. The room was tidy but felt spartan since there was no TV, air conditioning or WiFi. I understood that they were trying to keep it minimalistic since the resort is located in the woods and they want to wake up the nature lover in each customer. The walk around the garden was very nice and the ambience was serene. This would be a good place to stay if getting disconnected from the rest of the world doesn't bother you.

Unassuming gateway to paradise

Must say this was a surprise package in my Kerela trip, although i got to stay there for 1 night, but the place truly deserves a lengthy stay. Beautiful and serene surroundings, great massages, absolutely courteous staff, just perfect comfort in the rooms, limited but delicious servings, what more one can ask for?

At home in the lap of nature

It was a nice stay in Spice garden.All the services are excellent in the resort.There Chef's are too good and they didn't make you feel that you came to south as they are expert in every regional dish.It's a value for money resort and the staff are polite and gentle.

Amazing getaway

We stayed in Shalimar Spice Garden for 3 nights in April and had an amazing time. It's a quiet place tucked away amidst greenery. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and made us feel really welcome. We never had to call the housekeeping to clean the room. Would want to specifically mention Shirley from the front desk and Anish from the restaurant for their warmth and courteousness. We had a great time unwinding there and would definitely want to return to stay there. The hotel property contains an actual spice garden and vegetable garden which is used by the restaurant. Although the options at the restaurant is limited for vegetarians, everything we ordered was really tasty. Would really want to commend the gardener there as well for doing a great job in maintaining a diverse variety of trees/plants on the property. The landscaping of the garden is a treat for the eyes.The hotel does offer a complimentary wifi but the connection tends to be iffy - not that it really mattered since it's great to be completely disconnected in these surroundings. A nice book and a hammock by the pool and life seems blissful. The location is such that it is easier to reach and move around if you have your own car or taxi. The hotel does provide a taxi transfer but tends to be on the pricier side. Tip - they will get you a tuk-tuk to go to nearby places. We highly recommend Shalimar Spice Garden and would love to stay there again.
