Interesting experience

Everything was great except the temperature of the water. It was barely warm enough to take a shower.

The property is a bit dated and worn, but the staff work very hard to upkeep and maintain as very clean! Shared bathrooms always clean, although 1 night out of 4, there was no hot water. Vibes are great, very bohemian and friendly. Room was very basic but sufficient, with a wall AC unit, full length mirror, full sized bed with sheets and pillows, 1 towel per person, and 1 table. Super well connected with the streetcars and plenty of dining options within walking distance, although don't wander too far unless you know where you're going. Love Taj Mahal the house cat! Cheap and cheerful!

Great environment full of art and friendly people. I do worry sometimes in fun places like this that important things like cleanliness are overlooked but I had no complaints. Great place at a good price!

Excellent hostel with great chilled vibe and swimming pool. Slightly shabby in parts but to be expected given price. Would definitely stay there again.

Hostel in an old building

It’s a hostel in a very old building. They were nice at the front desk and there was suggestions for live music etc every day. It was clean enough but the building is very outdated and in need of some work. The bathroom doors don’t quite shut. We didn’t use the kitchen, didn’t look vert clean. Pool area was nice. We had a private room for two people, it had two bunk beds that were clean and comfy enough. The room had aircon and lockers (you need to bring your own lock) which I would recommend you to use (most of the doors didn’t quite lock). There’s free parking in front of the building in the street. Area felt safe. The trolley stop is like 1min walk and trolley ticket is $3/24h and goes to french quarter etc. The place is fine if you’re used to hostels!

Vera and Lisa did their best to shame me into believing our room screw up was my/Expedia fault. Found my confirmation and showed room I selected was correct. Think they rented my room in hopes I couldn’t prove room I selected. Make double sure triple sure you print off confirmation and take with you. Expedia helped me find a different place but nite before NCAA championship cost $2000.If I were 18-21 yrs old this place would be great. I’m 71 and traveled with my 25 yr old granddaughter.

Really nice place for a hostel. Very vibrant & colorful, even if the buildings are old & a bit dilapidated. It has great shared spaces & art. I'd really highly recommend it to anyone under 30. Especially solo travelers. I wish I'd been here when I was 18. As a middle aged married couple, it wasn't necessarily our vibe but we both really enjoyed the place. Right across from the trolley & easy to get to. Like much of New Orleans, it's not wheelchair accessible so if that's a concern this isn't the best spot.

I’ve been coming to Nola for yrs now but I’ve only stayed here at India House a few times. With each stay here I have been more than satisfied with everything. It’s a great gathering spot for people to come together from all over and have a great time. You must come and stay if you ever visit New Orleans. India House rules!

This place is a one hour HOEtel. Can not believe Expedia has this on their site for places to stay. PLEASE read the details, NO ONE under 18 allowed PERIOD. As front clerk stated, this is a place where drinking and partying at all hours happens. So don't expect quiet time. Outside there are bums walking down the street, sitting on the front stairs, definitely NOT a safe place to stay.

We're a backpackers party hostel and not a good environment for children. Quiet hours are from 10:00 PM to 10:00 AM. Our neighborhood, and our street are among the safest in the city. Hosteling isn't for everyone. Safe travels!

Awesome stay!

Honestly I loved how it was decorated and the overall vibe. It truly felt like I was backpacking through Europe. Its giving “Minnie’s Habadachery” vibes.
