You would expect a hotel with above-average rates to deliver above-average service, but this one disappoints big time. The buildings and rooms are old and not updated. The swimming pool is OK, but the `private beach' is a street away. The restaurant has seen better days also. On most days breakfast consists of a coffee dispenser and some pastries in a corridor, since neither the tavern nor the restaurant are open in the morning. On Sunday you get nothing, with the argument that you can buy brunch in the restaurant -- but only starting at 10:30 am! Since the hotel is located far from the center of New London, it is hard to find an outside breakfast place. The lobby is dark, and the ladies' room is labelled `powder room' so that men sometimes enter there under the mistaken assumption that there is no alternative restroom. There are no ice machines (tip: you can ask for ice at the reception desk). Nor does the room have a minibar or even a refrigerator (which is available on demand). Our room was cramped, and on Saturday morning a gardener started to trim the plants right outside with a loud machine. The fountain has no water. Basically, the hotel survives on weddings, with the wedding dinner in the main restaurant (leaving little or no place for regular hotel guests) and then the wedding guests stay overnight. The hotel might be good for those occasions, but does not cater well for the typical traveller.
