Mystery Hill

#appalachianechoes This picture is of the Mystery Hill sign in Boone. I took this picture because it reminds me of the time my parents brought me to Boone for a short vacation. We visited Mystery Hill and it is something I think about when describing this region. It is a picture that I feel many people from the region have in their minds from a previous visit or an outsider may feel for a similar place from their hometown. I chose to only take a picture of the sign because it is more direct than a picture of the Mystery Hill building.

This image attempts to illustrate the way that tourism plays a huge role in the everyday lives of individuals living in the Appalachian region. Often incorrectly know for being poorly educated, natives to the Appalachian Mountains are in reality brilliant entrepreneurs. When opportunities for employment became less plentiful, they cleverly established their own businesses by taking full advantage of the natural resources the area had to offer. The focus of this image is a sign placed in front of a "tourist trap" owned by local residents who sell the opportunity for visitors to experience the resource rich region by mining for gems or digging for fossils. #appalachianechoes

Only option now a combo option. Have to pay for stuff we didn’t have any interest in. We used to LOVE going here but now it’s just ridiculously expensive. Very disappointing.

Very interesting and enjoyable for the price. We went to during the Firefly nights, be sure you arrive in time to do everything, museums and other features close at 6 pm. I would suggest arrive by at least 2 pm. They serve snacks but not really dinner, you might stop before or bring your own.
