Modern comforts in an 1860's log cabin nestled in the Appalachian Foothills.
Spread out in fifty acres of field and forest or curl up by the original rock fireplace in our 1860's log cabin– just minutes from historic downtown Rogersville.
We love East Tennessee, so we take measures to reduce environmental impact and support our neighbors and regional makers.
Enjoy simple, natural pleasures with modern comforts, all while leaving a low ecological footprint.
---
This 1860's log cabin was moved from Surgoinsville to this spot in the 1970's.
The master bedroom is on the first floor; the other two are upstairs. The home is equipped with two full baths– downstairs has a shower, upstairs a clawfoot tub with a "handshower". We care about cooking, so our kitchen is fully equipped. There is a coal grill and outdoor seating on the patio as well as a gas fireplace in the living room.
Every room holds furnishings and decor that have been around for decades or more. Please enjoy them gently.
We want your stay to be as comfortable as possible. Feel free to reach out with any questions about your accommodations.

If you’re a fan of old time rustic ambience you will love this place like we did! Six of us met there from around the country for 4 nights - it was great for us! Laura was available every time she was contacted for our minor questions. The cabin had all modern amenities and we couldn’t have been happier. While in the area we visited the Printing Museum, Red Dog restaurant & Cowboy Steakhouse- pleased at both! We plan to come back!
This is a such a cute cabin! So well decorated with antiques, but also has all the modern amenities. The property is so beautiful and peaceful, very special. We loved staying here!
This was my first solo trip ever! I packed up and took my dog with me. We explored the property, hiked up the trail cut out on the mountain side many times, had coffee on the porch every morning, a fire every night. Read a book by the fireplace, ate breakfast by the large window overlooking the property and just soaked it all in. Felt very peaceful and safe here. The host was very sweet and very responsive! Highly recommend
The cabin was excellent and the land was amazing. Very much enjoyed staying and using the camp fire. Seeing the deer in field, and rain in the late day made it prefect.
The cabin was spacious and cozy. Lots of places to sleep and lounge. The outside space was amazing! Our dogs were safe and comfortable. The host was incredibly accommodating both pre booking and with extending our stay. Highly recommended!!
The property was beautiful, we enjoyed it immensely. It was close to other great experiences . Our family joined us a couple of days and we made dinner and another grilled on the wonderful patio with the beautiful view of the mountains. We will be back. Such a great time.
We absolutely loved our stay at Idle Hour Farm. This property was everything we were looking for during our trip to TN! The home is historic, gorgeous and extremely well maintained. We brought our pups with us and they enjoyed themselves as much as we did! The land is beautiful and perfect for walks with a gorgeous Mountain View. The home was super clean and had that classic “log cabin” feel. We can’t wait to book our next visit. Thank you so much for offering this beautiful property for us to experience!
This was our second visit to Idle Hour Farm. It was fun exploring the property. Used the fireplace on cool crisp mornings we are early risers. I was formerly raised in Tennessee. The log house reminded me of my grandparents log house of days gone by ruined by fire. Love pd sitting on the rockers on the front porch. We even saw a wild turkey doing a walk about. We are in our seventies. Could not negotiate the upstairs but master bedroom downstairs was great. Glad to see modern appliances in an old setting. Enjoyed reading the towns history too. Ate at the Hale Springs Inn and also toured the inns bedrooms where past Presidents have stayed. Their name plaques are on the rooms they stayed in. Inn was established in 1824. The town of Rogersville is historic. My parents grew up there. People are so friendly. The irises were blooming everywhere. It was a memorable stay.
Very nice cabin. They did a great job using the cabin while still maintaining the original feel. Hosts were great to work with and were very helpful. Would definitely recommend.
We enjoyed our stay at this authentic cabin. I wish we had more time to take advantage of the fire pit and the outdoor patios. Overall the location was great for us to visit family in the area. Thanks for a great visit!
Great cabin! The period decor and antiquity of the cabin was a charming throwback to earlier times. We especially enjoyed the cozy living room and fireplace. The manicured trails made exploring the property much easier.
The home was more than we expected with all the antiques . The history of the home was interesting and we felt comfortable and at home as soon as we walked in.

Great mixture of history and modern amenities!
Staying at this historic log farmhouse was an adventure. A week was not long enough to see the treasures within the house and the surrounding countryside. Front porch for morning coffee and back patio with new gas grill for evenings. Every room was inviting and offered nostalgic treasures. Hope owner will put screens on windows before fall. Would love to come back then and enjoy cool days and evenings.
A historic cabin with all the modern amenities. If you are a history buff this is a great retreat for you! Filled with antiques and very charming. Situated on a 50 acre farm it is a peaceful respite with several old farm building to explore. The host is very responsive and provided several suggestions of nearby places to visit during our stay. I would like to mention however that true to the time period of when this was originally built, the ceilings are low with exposed beams, but for me that just added to the rustic appeal.
My first impression when I walked through the door was that we had stepped back in time. My grandparents lived in a log cabin when I was a small child. No electricity nor running water. So glad that you modernized those things. I wanted to just unplug and enjoy the serenity of it all. Glad to see you did have wi-fi just in case we needed it. Only issue for us was negotiating the stairs, we were all in our 70’s. Too old to climb steep steps. So we had my sister in law and myself in the master bedroom. My husband slept in living room on the sofa to keep from climbing the steps. He said it was very comfortable. Our Chihuahua Rose is 13 and has cataracts. She ran around outside like she was a pup. Matter of fact in 3 short days she lost 5 oz. Must have been the sweet clover grass. I can brag to my friends that I stayed in a 1860’s cabin. Thank you so much for an enjoyable trip.
The perfect setting for an old fashioned Family Christmas! Laura was a fabulous hostess, and had the cabin perfect for our arrival. The cabin was extremely well appointed with everything you need to hunker down for the holiday. Generous bedrooms, bathrooms, and living areas—and an amazing, bucolic family farmstead setting! We’ll be back!
