  • #TroveOn Yes, Monteriggioni just might be the quintessential walled medieval village in Tuscany. It's small enough to perhaps be called "cute" but you won't catch me using this term. Monteriggioni began as a border fortress built on a round hill by Sienna against the Florentines. It is famous for the intact defensive structure that held up against repeated Florentine attacks in the 11th century; its 10 meter high walls and 14 towers can still be seen for miles around. Monteriggioni has been featured in movies as a typical medieval village. The village is slightly elliptical in shape with two gates (a third has been plugged). The major gate tourists will use when coming from the parking lot, Porta Franca, owes its name to the Via Francigena--Monteriggione was a major stop on the pilgrimage trail from Cantebury to Rome. The Romanesque Church of Santa Maria Assunta will offer assistance with housing for modern pilgrims traveling the Francigena pilgrimage route. Monteriggioni was a sleepy village of farmers and sheep herders as late as the 1960's. Today it exists entirely for tourists and pilgrims. You'll find wine shops, a tasting room, restaurants and hotels in the small village. This is not neccessarily a disadvantage, although some times it's nice to see some locals puttering about once in a while. Where is Monteriggioni? Monteriggioni is located in the province of Siena, 14km to the northwest of Siena (54km from Florence). While it can be done as a day trip from Siena, you might be better off staying the night--Monteriggioni is much more evocative when the tourists leave late in the afternoon and you can sit in a courtyard sipping a glass of Chianti. Monteriggioni is surrounded by vineyards, and is known for its wine production.

  • Cascate del Diborrato - Parco fluviale dell'Elsa Inside the residential area of Colle Val d'Elsa is a historic and natural landscape of enormous value thanks to the Elsa River which crosses the Val d'Elsa creating a unique territory. The river creates enchanting corners for hiking and observing: the engineering works for gathering water, the artifical canal system for carrying the water to the city, the caves. A particularly suggestive point is the Diborrato water falls, a 15m jump which is more than 10m deep, a sort of small lake where the locals used to go to cool off. Other places not to miss are the Grotta dell'Orso, the Conchina, the Masso Bianco, the Nicchia and the Spianata dei Falchi, each with its own particularities. This natural richness has been recognized with the institution of a protected area in the River Park of the Upper Val d'Elsa which includes the path of the river from the city of Colle Val d'Elsa which stretches from Ponte Santa Giulia to Ponte di Spugna and includes the Caldane, thermal springs which were known to the Etruscans and Romans.

The place is pretty nice, I loved the room that my family and I were assigned. The communal kitchen/eating space is delightful. We only stayed the one night but our experience with the morning staff was great. The only issue we had was with actually finding the place, GPS took us to a different place just down the road. Not a big deal except when you're in a foreign country and don't have cell phone service to call the B&B. 5 minute drive the castle at Monteriggioni.

Gradevole location in stile toscano. Soggiorno, benché di una sola notte, molto gradevole. Ambiente silenzioso e tranquillo, sembrava di essere i soli ospiti... Buona qualità del sonno. Giusta temperatura in camera. TV e Wi-Fi ottimamente funzionanti. Colazione deliziosa. Check-in e check-out veloci.

È un posto incantevole e tranquillo dove ci si può riposare e rilassare. Si tratta di un'antica fattoria ristrutturata con belle camere. Colazione buona ed abbondante e Claudio il gestore è una persona squisita che mette a proprio agio il cliente e lo coccola al meglio. Consigliatissimo

Bello ed essenziale!!!

È stato un soggiorno breve per una toccata e fuga improvvisata, quindi non abbiamo potuto goderci al meglio il posto, ma di sicuro in primavera ci ritorneremo...sono molto gentili e disponibili e l’ambiente in generale è molto bello e se vogliamo anche affascinante, aiutato anche dal paesaggio circostante!!!

מלון אותנטי מבחינת העיצוב. קורות עץ והרגשה של טוסקנה. במקור הזמנו חדר זוגי פשוט. החדר נחמד אך הוא פונה לכביש ולא היה בידוד מרעש. ביקשנו החלפה של החדר. קלאודיו אמר שזו ההזמנה אך יש לו חדר נוסף לא לכיוון הכביש. נצטרך להוסיף 8.5 יורו ללילה. הסכמנו ומזל שכך כי בארוחת בוקר שמענו את קולות המכוניות שעוברות. ארוחת הבוקר בסדר גמור. קפה קיומינו אמיתי, מאפים טובים עוגות ועוד. הדבר היחיד שהיה קשה היה ההגעה הראשונה כי ממש קשה למצוא את המקום. אף כי. פי. אס לא הצליח להביא אותנו למקום. תתקשרו קלאודיו ותקבלו ממנו הסבר לפני.

Hôtel calme dans la campagne

L'hôtel semble être une ancienne ferme convertie en bed and breakfast. La salle du petit déjeuner, qui est en fait l'ancienne cuisine, est à voir. Le buffet du petit déjeuner est copieux avec des pâtisseries faites maison. Le personnel est accueillant et il vaut mieux les appeler à l'avance pour définir avec eux l'heure d'arrivée. La chambre était propre et confortable. Seul bémol l'insonorisation: j'avais l'impression que l'occupant de la chambre d'à côté prenait sa douche dans ma salle de bain. Bref je recommande cet hôtel pour l'accueil, le cadre et le confort.

Very comfortable experience. Claudio was so hospitable even though we didn't always understand his Italian. Google translator filled in the blanks. He made good recommendations. We stayed in apartment. Wonderful hot shower. Clean. Beds we're pretty good. Lots of room. Loved the flowers outside. Quiet and peaceful stay in Tuscany. Breakfast was nice with great cappuccino in a quaint setting. Recommended great restaurant in monteriggione.
