About this property
Beautifully converted stone barn with lovely views of the Welsh Borders
The Long Barn is a beautifully converted stone barn situated above the Wye Valley, Monmouth with picturesque views over the Black Mountains and beyond. With a South facing patio equipped with barbeque and fire pit guests can enjoy the views and tranquil setting throughout the year.
It's an ideal location for relaxing or walking and cycling straight from the door. Well behaved pets are very welcome. There is an EV charger at Long Barn that is available to guests to use for a fee.
Long Barn is an ideal location for exploring this ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, unearthing its wonderful heritage or enjoying the many outdoor activities that Monmouthshire, Wye Valley and the Forest of Dean have to offer. From canoeing or abseiling for the adventurous visitors to more leisurely dog walking or cycling along its scenic routes straight from our doorstep into the beautiful countryside, we offer the perfect place to stay and explore.
The Space The property has 3 bedrooms, a bathroom plus one en-suite, kitchen and lounge area and sleeps 7. Other features include oak flooring, log burner, wet room and south facing patio area with seating, barbeque and fire pit.
Original stone features are retained in the barn whilst also offering modern facilities. The log burner makes your stay cosy and warm in the colder weather, while the south facing patio with barbeque and fire pit opens up onto this scenic yet tranquil setting.
We are proud to have been awarded a 4* rating by Visit Wales. This reflects the quality and service that we provide for our guests.
Living Area The spacious open-plan living space has plenty of seating for your group. Many of our previous guests have commented on the authentic feel of the barn which has been tastefully renovated with wood flooring throughout and stone features retained.
You will love the kitchen which is fully equipped for your stay with oven, hob, dishwasher and microwave. Long Barn provides a great setting for a family reunion or a get together with friends. The space is ideal for that special meal or for chilling in front of the log burner.
We provide a welcome pack which usually includes Welsh cakes and local Kymin honey. At times, other local produce such as eggs from our chickens and apples are also available.
Bedrooms and Bathrooms Take a walk into bedroom 1, which enjoys an en-suite, and patio doors opening onto the private, flat patio area in front of the barn. With views onto the garden whilst you enjoy your morning cup of tea in the comfortable double bed, or in the hotter weather, take a chair and relax in the sun on the patio as nature wakes up around you.
Along the corridor from the other side of the lounge are bedrooms 2 and 3 and the fully tiled wet room. Both bedrooms are light and airy, and you will enjoy looking at the wildlife prints and local scenes on the walls. Bedroom 2 boasts a double bed and bedroom 3 has bunk beds with a full-size pull-out trundle single providing flexibility in the accommodation to suit our guests.
We can provide a travel cot and highchair if required. Please ask on booking.
Outdoors Outside, the south facing patio is ideal for a relaxing drink any time of the day, a barbeque on a warm evening or wrap up in the winter and feast your eyes on the stunning star filled nights skies. The Kymin benefits from minimal light pollution, so is an ideal vantage point.
We are close to nature at the Long Barn, and it is not unusual to see rabbits, badgers, foxes, deer and bats in the vicinity or even venturing into the garden in a quiet period for a munch on the grass or hedgerows.
We offer guests the option to hire a hot tub (subject to availability) which can be located on the patio during their stay for that extra special addition to experiencing the view. Please ask for details on booking.
We welcome well behaved pets, and you can walk straight out from the Long Barn into the Forest of Dean or Wye Valley where there are plenty of trails supported by pet friendly watering holes.
There are normally animals in the field adjacent to the Long Barn and we offer the opportunity to feed the sheep and chickens when we are able to. This has proved very popular with guests, particularly our younger guests. Please ask on booking.
Bikes can be safely kept behind the barn, and you are welcome to use the hosepipe and outside tap to clean the mud off your cycle when you return from exploring the trails in the Forest or along the river. Please ask about under cover storage which can normally be provided a short distance from the barn.
Access The access to the property is along a single track lane and you can drive straight down to the Long Barn where there is ample parking for 3 cars. We offer guests the opportunity to charge their electric cars on site for a fee. Be aware that this is a rural location on a hill and although the lanes can be narrow and the access is relatively steep, you are rewarded on arrival by the stunning scenery and views from the property.
This property can also be booked with Top Barn, a smaller 2 bed property close by, providing accommodation for up to 12 guests across the two separate properties. Please see separate listing or enquire for more details.
Activities and Travel The cottage is only metres from Offa's Dyke footpath situated in an area of 'Outstanding Natural Beauty' and there are numerous activities in the adjacent Forest of Dean including cycling, canoeing and rock climbing. In addition, we are close to other points of interest including Tintern Abbey, Symonds Yat, numerous castles including Chepstow and Raglan and only an hour’s drive away from the tallest mountain in South Wales, Pen Y Fan, located in the Brecon Beacons National Park.
We are ideally situated between Cardiff and Bristol, with easy access to both via car or train (Abergavenny).
There are several excellent golf courses within 30 minutes drive of the property including The Celtic Manor Resort.

We had a great weekend at the Long Barn. The hosts were very good at communication and the accommodation was perfect in every way…cleanliness, amenities, view and comfort.
We will stay again.
A lovely property with amazing views. Cathy was easy to contact and always quick to respond. The barn was well equipped, very clean and in an amazing location.
We choose this location to be near to the Wye Valley Might Hikes marathon! Everything was perfect, location was amazing only issue we found was that the bathroom flooded when you used the shower!
We had a two night stay which was perfect for us to explore the local area, enjoying walks with the dogs and an evening BBQ at the house with the most amazing views!
Cathy was an excellent host and really timely in answering any questions we had. Would thoroughly reccomend.
We stayed over the August BH weekend and had a fabulous time. Cathy and David were great hosts. Cathy gave loads of information and David kindly took us all to feed their sheep and chickens which our 9 year old niece and 3 year old daughter loved.
We had a BBQ with a beautiful view and all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The property is very secluded down a
Some single track roads but the views make up for it!

Peace and relaxation
Sadly due to a booking mix up we actually stayed in the smaller Top Barn rather than Long Barn but have to say Cathy was excellent in sorting out and hugely apologetic. Warm, cosy and comfy accommodation with everything you need and the location and views make for a hugely relaxing break with sheep wandering past the windows. Be prepared for the Kymin climb. Monmouth is just 10mine by car below with easy access onto the A40 to explore the Wye Valley. Excellent.
A little disappointed with how basic the crockery, the cookware and some of the bedding was compared with similar priced properties elsewhere. I also expected better dining seating. Otherwise it served our needs very well, in a lovely location, super shower and efficient appliances. We were comfortable. Cathy was in touch and friendly from the moment of booking, was available for any queries and although I did not meet her, she popped down during our stay to see the family.
Lovely stay at Long Barn. Plenty of space for the 4 of us. Loved the fire pit/view. Sounds of birds in the morning was gorgeous. Had amazing weather. Cathy was a great host. Would highly recommend a stay here. Enjoyed the walk up to the Kymin too.
After an adventurous drive we declared it was worth it. The barn is well appointed and everything worked and we had 4 great days catching up with friends and family
We had a long weekend here with our children. They particularly enjoyed feeding the sheep and chickens on the property. There was an incredible view from the patio and the host communicated well with us. It was a clean property with everything we needed for our stay.
The Cottage is excellent and has everything you need for a stay with family or friends! It is in a very quiet location but perfect for a relaxing stay!
The cottage is a 30 minute walk downhill into Monmouth but the walk back up the hill will certainly help to burn off any food or drink you may have consumed!
Overall, a lovely place to stay
Absolutely stunning property. Comfortable, (especially the beds) well equipped, clean. All the things you want & need for a holiday let, the absolute best part? The view from the front of the house! Day or night - it's amazing. We had the best time, only wish we could have stayed longer. We will definitely be back
The conversion is really well done. The location is super, on a hill overlooking Monmouth. Hosts are friendly and helpful. It's a narrow winding road to get up to the site, but that adds to the sense of being away from it all.
Had a lovely relaxing break here, lovely barn beautiful views and lots to explore in the area. Definitely recharged and ready for the run up to Christmas!
We really enjoyed our stay in Long Barn. Wonderful views and great place to stay. Owners are friendly and try to make sure you feel comfortable and welcome. Highly recommend the place !
Cathy, the owner was lovely and very helpful.
Great Morrison’s delivery on arrival.
Beautiful location and views - but need to be fit as very hilly.
Our dog loved it too and was safe exploring the property.
The Long Barn was beautifully renovated and the little touches Cathy did made it even better. Fresh flowers, Cava and Welsh Cakes on arrival. Shampoo, conditioner and soaps devine.
The only down side for me was the bed was a double as I am used to a super king size.
Would go again.
