A wonderful stay

We can’t rate this property highly enough! Beautifully restored, private gite, full of character with gorgeous grounds. Very well equipped, with outdoor tools and a lovely pool. Perfect location for days out. Florence and Philippe couldn’t have been more helpful and even brought us home grown cucumbers and melon halfway through the week! The only disappointment was the weather…We will be back!

Our 2nd stay at the property, and again had a lovely time. We used the property as a base for 3 weeks and had friends and family staying with us and our 2 dogs. We again found the property to be superb, and the hosts being at the end of the road were very helpful, but not at all intrusive. The property is in a great position for visiting the sites in the Dordogne, and having direct access to the woods and numerous paths was great for the dogs.

Absolutely lovely house & grounds, I would say the best I have visited. House is suitable for 8, but we used as a family of 3, plus the dog. Owners are very helpful and friendly and on hand for anything you need. Location is great with access to local villages and the Dordogne, although you will need to tear yourself away from the pool. Thank you very much for a great stay.

De vakantiewoning La Ruine is door de eigenaar eigenhandig gebouwd op de fundamenten van een oude ruïne. (fotoalbum ligt in de woonkamer) Vakwerk en met moderne faciliteiten zoals warmtepomp, warm water solar installatie etc. De woning is zeer vrij gelegen (je ziet niemand vanuit terras en tuin), ziet er fantastisch uit en een heerlijk zwembad. Geschikt voor 8 personen en voorzien van alle benodigdheden. De eigenaren wonen vlak bij aan dezelfde toegangsweg en zijn zeer vriendelijk en voorkomend. (komen ook de meeste dagen in de vroege ochtend even langs voor de bloemen water te geven en zwembad schoonmaken). Het enige waar je rekening mee moet houden is dat grote winkels wat verder weg liggen, even vlug een boodschap halen is er niet bij. Belvès en Monpazier zijn beide leuke stadjes (historisch) en dicht bij (10-15 min). Wij waren bijzonder tevreden en kunnen deze woning van harte aanbevelen.

Nog 11 maanden en we mogen terugkeren. Nog nooit hebben we twee jaar na elkaar hetzelfde vakantiehuis gereserveerd en nog nooit zo vroeg. Nu hebben we echter niet getwijfeld, waarom? Hierom: De woning is vlot bereikbaar. Brede banen tot je het smalle oplopende weggetje naar La roque haute indraait, maar ook dit is goed berijdbaar. En dan op de top, liefde op het eerste gezicht. Het eerste wat opvalt is de rust en de prachtige groene omgeving. Op een verlaten boerderij na even verderop is dit het laatste huis van deze doodlopende weg. Enkele boomgaarden en de wei met paarden maken het idyllische plaatje compleet. Je ziet meteen aan de voorkant en aan de oprit dat het om een tot in de puntjes verzorgd domein gaat. Het ontvangstcomité stond uiteraard al klaar. Nu hebben we in het verleden op één uitzondering na (niet via Belvilla) altijd heel goede contacten gehad met sympathieke eigenaars maar dit is toch een klasse apart. Heel aangename warme mensen die enkele honderden meters terug op La roque haute wonen. Ze hebben deze vakantiewoning met hun eigen handen letterlijk van een ruïne bestaande uit enkele stenen (die nog min of meer een muur vormden) opgebouwd tot het pareltje dat het nu is (in het huis ligt een fotoalbum dat de werken van begin tot einde toont, zeker eens inkijken!). Af en toe passeren ze om het zwembad te reinigen. Ze doen dit ’s morgens vroeg als iedereen nog ligt te slapen om niet te storen. Nu ben ik echter een vroege vogel en daardoor had ik het plezier om enkele malen een aangenaam gesprek te hebben met zowel mevrouw al mijnheer. De eerste week dat we er waren vertrokken ze een weekje voor een ongetwijfeld welverdiende vakantie en ze boden meermaals hun verontschuldigingen aan omdat ze zo minder goed voor ons konden zorgen. Nog nooit meegemaakt. Met drie flessen wijn en verscheiden lokale specialiteiten hadden we nu al allesbehalve te klagen maar blijkbaar passeren ze af en toe ook nog eens met groenten uit hun moestuin. Het huis zelf is prachtig. De eerste dagen hadden we wat regen maar omdat het huis zo gezellig is vonden we dat helemaal niet zo erg. Een van de mooiste momenten was in de lounge op het overdekte terras naast het zwembad naar de regen luisteren, rustgevender kan niet. De indeling is heel gezellig met de twee verdiepingen (3 slaapkamers beneden en 1 boven), waarbij de bovenste verdieping toegang geeft tot het terras boven en de benedenverdieping tot het overdekte terras met de lounge en dus het zwembad. Niets leuker dan ’s morgens de deuren van je slaapkamer openen en, mocht je dat willen, recht het zwembad induiken. Degelijke meubels en apparatuur, twee uitmuntende douches en drie toiletten (waarvan eentje rechtstreeks bereikbaar vanaf het zwembad zonder dat je het huis in moet). De tuin is mooi verzorgd. Sportievelingen kunnen zich naast het zwembad ook uitleven op de ping pong tafel en het badmintonterrein. Het zwembad is groot en heel goed onderhouden. Het tuinmeubilair is degelijk zoals het moet. Absolute blikvanger naast het zwembad is het wondermooie uitzicht. Hoe ver je ook kijkt (en je kan ver kijken), nergens is een ander huis te bespeuren. In de weide achter het huis zagen we meermaals hertjes passeren. Vooraan het huis heb je nog een derde gezellig terras met o.a. een picknick tafel. Zo kan je je naargelang de zon, het uur of je voorkeur van het moment installeren op het terras dat je het beste uitkomt. Zijn er dan geen minpunten. Tuurlijk, maar voor ons waren het geen breekpunten. Het zwembad is niet verwarmd maar na dertig seconden ben je al aangepast aan de temperatuur. Er is geen airco, maar dat hebben we thuis ook niet. De wifi is niet altijd stabiel, maar het is vakantie en een beetje minder internet kan geen kwaad (bovendien is het signaal in de woonkamer en keuken sterk genoeg). Het voelt eerlijk gezegd aan als muggenziften maar prioriteiten verschillen van huurder tot huurder, dus geven we het toch maar mee. Tot slot nog een woordje over de absolute ster van La roque haute: Nemo, de Jack Russel van de buren (of de clown van La roque volgens de eigenares). Een heel lieve en sociale hond die elke dag even enthousiast goeiedag komt zeggen en bovendien best wel een stukje van de barbecue lust. Voor ons een onverwacht bonuspuntje maar als je dit minder apprecieert volstaat het om hem dit duidelijk te maken en hij laat je met rust. Een ding is zeker, we missen hem en we misen La roque haute. Nog 11 maanden.
