Close to castle
Nice hotel situated in Matsumoto, close to the castle. Excellent welcome and service from staff throughout the trip. Room was comfortable and clean, although a bit old fashioned. Did not manage to try the public baths, but the breakfast was good.

【よかった点】 ・スタッフの方々がとてもあたたかく丁寧だった ・朝食が美味しかった ・お土産屋さんの雰囲気が素敵だった ・ナワテ通りや中町通りも近く、散歩にちょうどいい立地 【気になった点】 ・部屋に入った時に洗面所がかなり臭った(しばらく換気をしたら直りました) ・暖房が暑すぎた(最弱にしてもまだ暑かったです)

Great location, tasteful hotel.
Hotel staff was nice and ambience was great if you like Japanese western decor. 1,000 yen discount voucher given due to on-going facade construction which i thought is a nice gesture. Superb location near Matsumoto castle.

This nice hotel has both Japanese and Western style rooms. It also has a simple Japanese bath available to guest. Just a 15 minute walk to from the train station, this was a great place to stay.

A great hotel!
Location was pretty good as it was less than 15 minutes walk from the Matsumoto station. And there is also a city shuttle if you don't feel like walking. It's also a short walk to the Matsumoto Castle. I love the nostalgic vibes of the hotel and my room was very comfortable and clean. And after a day of going around, I can have a nice soak on the public bath. Blissful! I'll definitely stay here again when I am back!

Overall good stay
I had a comfortable stay at this hotel. Even though I stayed 4 nights, they wouldn’t get soya milk so I could have breakfast in the cafe next door. They have bikes but they’re terrible!

Exceeded my expectations
When I booked the hotel, the reviews made me think that it would be 'ok' but not amazing. However, as soon as we arrived, I was very impressed with the quality of the hotel. The staff were very helpful and responsive. The building is gorgeous, luxurious and has a lovely historic atmosphere to it. The room was very comfortable. We didn't have time to try out the baths unfortunately - too busy exploring Matsumoto and what a lovely place it is. We didn't eat at the hotel - the only thing I would say is that the menus on offer (dinner and breakfast) feel a bit formal, structured and a bit pricey. So we headed into town to explore the bakeries and izakayas instead. Very close by is a superb izakaya called 'Hikage' - the menu was in Japanese but a lovely member of staff translated it all for us and recommended some top notch dishes and local sake - all for a good price. The evening at Hikage was definitely one of our highlights. Final comment to make is that the location of the Kagetsu is absolutely brilliant. Overall, this place is highly recommended.

Lovely stay
We really enjoyed our stay here and wished we could stay for longer! Lovely building and reception. Little rooftop for a view of the castle. Traditional pyjamas and hot bathing available in the basement (plus normal showers etc in the rooms.) It was very comfortable. We used the nearby parking with a discount via the hotel. Lots of good amenities in the room. Lovely area and walking distance to key sights. We recommend the Eonta bar nearby for jazz music and night time drinks!

Gem of a ryokan
Fantastic service - they thought of everything. Understanding that not all guests speak Japanese, they have each a translation device so as to minimize miscommunication. Each meal is a fancy affair - with a display of culinary aplomb beautifully presented. Love the onsens - both public and reservables - they provided a variety of experiences: indoor and outdoor, stone and wood. Our inroom outdoor onsen was great too. It was altogether a lovely experience.

It is a great location close to the castle and the station . The entry is old world and welcoming with very helpful staff . The onsen was a wonderful way to relax after a buy travel schedule . The outfits provided were comfortable and created the right mood for the hotel . Our beds were comfortable and the wi-fi very good .

The Hotel was not only clean and well run, but the staff was extremely helpful for all our needs. They answered all our myriad questions with kind consideration and patience. When we needed a lot of help with telephones, they called for us. We couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful support group.
