The host was awesome to work with. He stayed in touch with us the entire time making sure everything was good and gave recommendations of places to eat. The house had a great view of the mountains and not ro mention was able to see an elk in the neighbors yard. 10 out 10 stars !
For rest & relaxation, this is the perfect place! This was our second stay & can’t wait until September for our third. We had to leave early this trip due to a family emergency & Mr. Rucker was great to work with us. This place is great & I recommend staying.
Very lovely maintained home. Never stayed anywhere cleaner. View was spectacular. Mr. Don was very helpful and responed fast to my inquiries. Enjoyed my stay there very much. Hope to go back one day.
Cabin is awesome! Clean! Welcoming! Could not have picked a better place. It’s hard to find the perfect place on the internet and this did not disappoint. Will stay again and recommend.
We have stayed at this lovely home for several years. It is very comfortable and spotless. This year we had a female elk and her baby come up the driveway and snack on the tree outside the kitchen window. We love staying here every year.
This is our second stay and it was just as great as the first. The cabin was perfect for our needs. The cabin is not too far up the mountain and has a fabulous view. Quick in and out and close to everything we love about the area. The hummingbirds were a treat! There were no elk this time but we still have the memories of the babies we saw during the first stay.
We love staying here!! We came up this trip to celebrate my husband’s 65th birthday & it will be one to remember - Hurricane Helene!! The valley protected us & we never lost power or use of water. Our host stayed in contact with us up until we lost cell coverage & was back with us once our service was restored - thank you Mr. Rucker !!!
We were hoping for rest & relaxation & we were not disappointed - we are an older couple & this place was perfect for us!! We really enjoyed our morning coffee on the porch swing, afternoons relaxing in the hot tub & evening meals outside by the fire pit. We had plenty of entertainment with watching all the hummingbirds & an occasional visit by the elk. We loved this place & hope to return again soon!! Don is an amazing host!!!
The view was amazing. The house was pristine clean and very adequately supplied. First time I have stayed at a VRBO and not had to go buy paper towels. The owner gave detailed instructions about the security system, tv, etc. The owner also made a lot of recommendations of places to eat. We will definitely be back.
We loved this place. It was clean, well stocked, comfortable seating and comfortable master mattress. (We didn't use 2nd bedroom). The location is convenient to so many places. We hiked to waterfalls, saw elk at Cherokee and rode the train in Bryson City. Sitting on the deck was lovely with hummingbirds visiting all the time and beautiful view of the mountains. There is some noise as it is not far from the main road, but it didn't bother us at all. The host was great and we would definitely come again!
This whole transaction went exceptionably well from beginning to end. Don the owner, is great to work with as he answers your questions immediately and doesn't keep you waiting for answers.
The home is very nice. The hot tub is clean and inviting. I found myself very relaxed during our stay.
There are two hummingbird feeders on the back porch and a family of at least six different birds continuously visiting even when I was inches from the feeder.
The home is well stocked and we found everything in great working order. We intend to return next year.
Excellent property. So clean. Easy to get in and out of town. Beautiful view from the porch. Hot tub is wonderful and has a deck built up that it sits down in so it's a matter of just sitting down and swinging your feet over. Perfect for anyone with back issues. Easy steps in the door but if you find those 3 too difficult you can go around the side and use the steps by the hot tub which are even shallower. Covered deck with porch swing was great. Hummingbirds were fun to watch. Don is very easy to work with. We'll be back! Thank you.
We loved our stay at The Bear Den! So easy to find and in the heart of Maggie Valley. The house was clean , cozy, and comfortable. We loved sitting on the deck in the porch swing, looking at the beautiful mountain views and listening to the song birds. Our first morning there , we woke up and were greeted by 3 elk in the yard, and a turkey and her 5 babies. The house was close to the Blue Ridge Parkway so we drove up to hike Waterrock Knob towards Asheville, and we also enjoyed driving up towards Balsam Mountain to look for wildlife and walk on some trails. We saw lots of elk and turkey this trip but have seen a black bear in years past. Each evening, we got in the hot tub and watched all the lightning bugs in the yard. We have stayed at many VRBO’s all over the United States, this house is on our favorite list . Don was a fantastic host and responded quickly to any questions we had. If you are looking for a place in Maggie Valley, book The Bear Den! A week of true bliss that will make you wish you could stay longer or plan a trip to come back.
We first stayed at The Bear Den last October. It was the perfect place to come back to after a long day of hiking. The hot tub, the recliners, and the fireplace all contributed to making it cozy and relaxing especially when we were sore and worn out 🙃. Great view out the back, and we even saw several elk walk right up the driveway! The bed was also quite comfortable. The best part though is that Don is a great host who goes out of his way to be helpful—we found this out when we decided to extend a vacation this winter by coming back to Maggie Valley after spending a week in Banner Elk. On short notice Don went above and beyond to accommodate us and it really capped off our trip on a high note.
The location is great as well, only about 5 minutes away from Joey’s Pancake House in one direction (get there early in peak season, though not nearly as busy in winter), and the Blue Ridge Parkway in the other (both directions were closed for the winter but it was open right at the junction where you can access one trailhead).
One thing to be aware of is that Google Maps doesn’t think you can turn left from the main road onto the drive—it will try to send you on a weird double-back-and-around route but we soon learned that it’s easier to ignore that and turn left (if you have a very large SUV it might be hard to make the turn, but for reference a Kia Sportage did just fine).
The host, Don was very responsive to messages and provided great information to help our trip go smoothly. The house was lovely, we had everything we needed and it was very clean and inviting. The location is central to everything we wanted to do. We will be back to visit!
Don rucker was a great host. Are stay was great. The best psrt was we were sitting at the kitchen table around 5 and a whole family of elks came down the street. The bed was so comfortable. Thanks to r host he gave us great suggestions on where to eat and things to do.Over all great stay
The location was perfect for visiting Great Smoky NP as well as a couple of dinner nights in Asheville. The property was well appointed and comfortable. Recommend highly
My wife and I spent 5 nights in this lovely home. The location is fantastic and there are beautiful Mountain View’s from the deck. The property owner was excellent in his communication with us.
This property was perfect for two of us to get away for Thanksgiving. House was decorated for Christmas and was very nicely furnished. It was close to Maggie Valley and a short drive to Waynesville. We will stay again if we are traveling alone.
This cabin was more than we expected ! Great view and awesome things to do in the beautiful town of Maggie valley! My family and I plan on booking another stay ! Thank you for a great Christmas !
