For a combination of space, equipment, comfort, views and beauty of surroundings, this house is difficult to beat.
A wonderfully comfortable living room (with an oft-used wood burner, the log supply being much appreciated), well-equipped kitchen and utility room, formal and informal options both for eating and for relaxing, great outdoor provision for cars and bikes, a fantastic garden and arresting views fuel the overriding, highly favourable impression.
On the downside, the fixtures and fittings are typically ‘Highland rental’ and don’t really do justice to the grandeur of the building - mis-matched furniture in a bedroom, old Lino bubbling-up on the floor of the shower room, the single beds in one of the rooms declared uncomfortable by young teenage boys that can sleep anywhere and only some of the pictures adorning the walls being of its place, the rest looking like a motley collection from a boot sale.
I make this observation less to criticise than from a wish that a little more attention would be paid to this house because it could be truly magnificent, even sumptuous.
We were two families that holiday together in Scotland every year and, up against some stiff competition, we agreed that this is the best house we’ve stayed in. We’re already discussing a return, provided we’ll be allowed back after this review!
