Location, location
Wonderful property. A few pros and cons: 1) Pro: Location/view are absolutely stunning 2) Con: A bit of a mouse problem, we were cleaning up quite a bit of feces and they even ate our food. Owner is trying to remediate, hope it goes better for the next guests 3) Pro: New hot tub! The view from it can not be beat 4) FYI: Long single lane road to property. Was a bit scary around the blind corners. Still worth it.

Top of the World
The views from this house are magnificent. It felt like an aleph point that was somehow in Northern California, England, Ireland, and Italy. I loved looking at a book about castles of the world while on the couch overlooking the land, sunrise and sunset. My kids loved the hottub. You can tell this home was a happy place with good vibes built into it. Hosts were communicative and helpful. We would stay again. Thanks

Secluded Getaway
The property was well maintained with a great view in a secluded area. The home has rustic charm on a horse ranch. Plenty of wildlife we seen daily. The entrance road is a little tough for someone not used to narrow pass ways but also well maintained.

Beautiful Location
We stayed here for the weekend for a book club getaway and had a great time. The host Cheryl was awesome, very accommodating and communicative when needed. There were a few hiccups outside of her control but she did her best to help. There was a major power outage for a good portion of our stay but she was great about letting us know what was going on, keeping us up to date and helping where she could. You can't beat the view and even during a power outage in a heat wave, it's location allowed for a slight breeze that kept it bearable.

Amazing country mountain home!
Cheryl’s estate is nothing short of amazing! We absolutely loved our time spent. The home is so warm and inviting, and the scene around the property is spectacular with rolling hills and mountain views, whether you love the sunrise or sunset, you have it all! The kitchen as well appointed, and the home is so comfortable and cozy! We loved watching her horses, Roam in front of us and even got to see some wild turkeys, running around and some deer. Our family truly appreciated every ounce of our stay and working with Cheryl was a real pleasure. Thank you again and we will be back!

Amazing!!!
This location and property was just what my friends and I needed. The views are stunning and the house soo spacious. It was calming and restful, perfect to rejuvenate. Would definitely recommend for a retreat getaway. Cheryl was amazing and in communication. I am grateful for the stay.

We had a wonderful time celebrating my mom’s 60th birthday with friends and family at this home! Cheryl was a great host and easy to communicate. If you stay here we highly recommend waking up for the sunrises!

Serene Views
House was charmingly decorated and full of character. Property was very fun to stay at with the views stealing the show. we spent most of the time out back just enjoying the scenery. The spa was broken and that was the only negative.

Beautiful house with spectacular views!
Our group of ten had a great time! The house is large, comfortable, and well-furnished. The spacious kitchen had everything we needed to cook large meals. The highlight, of course, is the view! We spent most of our time on the patio and deck behind the house enjoying the scenery, and also played some yard games on the lawn. Unfortunately, the hot tub was not working, but the owner told us a new one is on the way for future guests. Would highly recommend a trip to Del Valle Lake about 45 minutes away. Would definitely recommend this place! Thank you to our hosts for having us.

Perfect for a home away from home feeling
We stayed 3 days, 2 nights. The host was very receptive to our questions before our trip. The home is lovely. There are beautiful views of the mountainside. Our trip did have a hiccup with a power outage from a downed redwood tree, but the host kept us updated with electricity restoration. The groundskeeper was very friendly and lent us a butane stovetop to use. Nonetheless, we kept warm with the cozy fireplace. There was ample supply of blankets to keep everyone warm through the night. The kiddos loved the giant block set...lots of toys which was a bonus for them. Our family enjoyed the visit and the memories we made.

We rented this house for room space and a great view for a bridal shower. It was an ever-changing view; and an excellent spot to retreat up into Old California.

Great getaway just outside Bay Area
We stayed at Cheryl’s property for a couple of nights. It’s great place with beautiful antics, views and so spacious! It’s very kid friendly place We would love to return. Just 1 thing to note: nearest grocery store or restaurants are about 20 mins away and nighttime drive may not be safe.

Beautiful property with excellent views
We had a wonderful time at this beautiful property.The views are spectacular !The drive to the property needs little getting used to ,as it is one way road on hills, but the road conditions is good. I would suggest to go when there is still sunlight. It will be tricky to drive in foggy conditions.It does get foggy in the mornings. Except some delay in getting the check in details.we didn’t get them till the afternoon on the day of check in, but she was responsive to all our requests during our stay. As the other reviewers mentioned the some of the bathrooms need privacy and it’s better to pack your own toiletries, especially if you are going with a large group. We loved our stay. Thanks

Beautiful place with breathtaking view.

Beautiful Spacious House with Amazing Views
Beautiful quiet house up in the hills with amazing views. It's a little out of the way to get to on a country road, but that's likely why you choosing this place for; country appeal with peace & quiet. No complaints at all!

Absolutely amazing.
This place is beyond words. The view is stunning and Cheryl was a great host. The drive up can be daunting for some that aren't use to driving on narrow 1 lane roads but it is more than worth it. The house is at the top of the mountain and you feel like a king standing on the deck and looking over the Livermore Valley. The rooms are plentiful and can easily host a large group of people without feeling cramped at all. We stayed for 2 nights but I could honestly live there forever. By far the best vacation home I've ever stayed at. The pictures do not do it justice. Yeah, there aren't any blinds on windows but who cares. I wouldn't want blinds or curtains to get in the way of that amazing view. Waking up and looking out the windows to see the entire valley covered in fog while you're sitting high up on the mountain with blue skies above you is a hell of a feeling.

Amazing views, beautiful property, less than an hour from Bay Area
We were traveling with 3 little ones and so wanted a place where we could relax and enjoy great views without having to step out too far from the property. Cheryl's place more than delivered on that front. The living room and master bedroom had breath-taking views. In the mornings it seemed like the place was sailing over a sea of mist. The backyard and deck area had nice breeze in the evenings. Cheryl was also very responsive as a host: we needed some band-aid for one of the little ones and Cheryl had it delivered immediately. We expect to be back soon. Thanks Cheryl for the great stay !

We were travelling in California for work and decided to rent this property to have a relaxing weekend. We absolutely loved everything about our stay: the property, the views, the amenities. Would definitely stay here again!

Beautiful but old property. Amazing Views.
Stayed here over a weekend with some friends. The house is located on top of a hill. The nearest grocery store is about 30 mins drive down winding roads. The property itself is beautiful and the views are gorgeous. The house is old but charming. Pros: 1. Quiet and peaceful surroundings 2. Massive house with enough space to sleep 9 3. Outdoor patio, backyard and fireplace 4. Friendly host Some suggestions for the owner/future guests: 1. Master bedroom jacuzzi doesn’t work 2. Hot tub had a lot of leaves and didn’t look clean 3. Loud security system sound announces every door and window openings/closings. This gets really loud in the master bedroom with the device being right next to the bed. This woke me up a few times every night. 4. No toiletries in any bathrooms 5. no drapes on any windows. People on the patio can look directly into the master bedroom (can get awkward) Overall a very comfortable stay, we were just unable to use some amenities listed on VRBO.

The property was clean, but outdated. The property is also extremely spacious. The views over looking the hill tops and valley are stunning. The hot top outside was definitely an added bonus. The owner followed up with me on the second day to make sure everything was going well. Would definitely recommend.

Beautiful house in a great location
Cheryl’s house is beautiful, up in farm country, and at high elevation. It is relatively remote which is exactly what we needed. Cheryl lives next door and was inside the house when we first checked in, which surprised us, esp during the pandemic. The place was mostly clean but we unfortunately found mouse droppings in the kitchen drawers and had to spend the first night cleaning to feel comfortable staying at the place.

Prompt response and open communication with property owner Storybook Ranch is a great escape. Covid friendly. House equipped with everything that you need. Serene views throughout the day. Wild turkeys, deer and wildlife on this beautiful preserve. Would love to go back to this property in the future!

Vacation in a secluded paradise
We had a great stay at the property with excellent views but be aware that it is pretty far away from civilization because of treacherous road conditions. You will have to plan your meal plans or other activities in advance. The property also needs a little bit TLC. Bathroom shower hoses should be replaced and the kitchen utensils should be changed. They were grimy. The property was not very clean even in this pandemic age. We took a secluded house for a change of scenery and were expecting a clean and sanitized place. There were spiders and spider webs in a lot of places and the kitchen was musty and not felt clean. They should also think about putting some blinds because it does get hot in Livermore. Overall we loved the property and would love to come again and hope that the owner keeps up the upkeep.

It was a beautiful place and location, great views, indoor decor was very pretty. The kitchen was fully stocked and the house had great amenities. The only downside was that the property was not that private. The owners live right next door and drove by the residence several times. There were also no curtains so the sun woke us up before our alarms could.

She was incredibly accommodating and wonderful and her house was exactly what we needed to de-stress. The house is clean, well stocked, and the view are nothing short of amazing. Peaceful retreat with perfect view
Our family enjoyed a relaxing few days at this property. The views are stunning and the entire property, from the house to the hot tub take full advantage of the views. We enjoyed walking to the regional park for a hike and taking in the sunrise and sunset from this special home. The layout is nice with plenty of bedrooms and comfortable beds. Cheryl was lovely to work with and was kind enough to provide decorations for the holidays. This is a special place. Thank you for sharing it with us, Cheryl!

Won't return your security deposit
The place was beautiful and just as shown. Unfortunately good luck getting your security deposit back. The owner has it set such that the security deposit is not automatically released after the stay (if nothing is reported). And VRBO can do nothing about it. 7 weeks later neither the owner, not VRBO have refunded me any of the deposit--despite claims by the owner that she will send a check.

We had a wonderful family reunion weekend here. Cheryl is a great host. This is an outstanding property. It is located in the hills to the north of Livermore, but has views of the entire valley. Sunrise in the master bedroom is a welcome gentle greeting to the day. Sunset in the living room is expansive. Three generations of our family loved our stay. PS if you like to bike ride, making it up to the gate from Livermore would be a bucket list.

We stayed at this location because it was close to our daughter in Danville, as we live in Southern California. It was as advertised, beautiful views and accommodations. Incredibly beautiful and spacious.
We had a party of 7 stay at Cheryl's place. On Friday more of our family joined us for dinner. It was a wonderful place for us to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. We would recommend it.

Very comfortable with amazing views.
The home was very spacious and very comfortable. The property/setting is very picturesque. If you like to observe wildlife this is definitely the place you should stay. Our trip was to visit family and the location was perfect, centrally located. Also, Cheryl was very accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our visit. I highly recommend this property. We plan to make this the place we always stay when visiting San Francisco

just the views was worth it
My friends and I wanted to get together to finally catch up and the place was amazing. The place is just far enough from livermore to be completely private, but close enough where we could easily drive to the city. We thought we might have been a little loud, but when doing some investigating, the crickets muffled any of our laughter to the caretaker that lived probably 100ft away in a completely different house. We decided not to even drive into the city, and just relaxed at the facility. The house was large enough were even if half of our friends were up on one side of the house, the other side was was completely quiet. One huge perk for us, due to the house being on top of a hill and in June at 105 degree weather, there was a good amount of wind that kept us cool when we were hanging out at the balcony. Would definitely stay here again.

A unique and comfortable home in the hills. The house feels miles away from the hustle and bustle of the bay area, but its only minutes away. All my guests at my birthday brunch were in awe of the gorgeous views!

Truly "Up in the clouds"
Beautiful, comfortable home! We had seven adults, in town for our son's wedding at Wente Vineyards.The kitchen was spacious, the living room comfy with large leather couches. We enjoyed relaxing on the deck and walking in the regional park. It was about 15 min drive to freeway, 30 min to Wente. Thank you, Cheryl, for making us feel so welcome!
