Firstly you need to be aware if you are booking this apartment that it doesn't have a smoke alarm fitted or a carbon monoxide detector. There must've been a smoke detector at some point as there is a fitting in the hall but no longer. That point tells you a lot about how important your safety is to the hosts, it should be illegal to rent a property without basic standard (and cheap) alarms.
Positive points this apartment is in a good location, immediately next door to a ski equipment hire shop and a stones throw from a bus stop taking you into chamonix. If you want to ski in chamonix get off just past the town and either walk up a very steep hill or jump on the no.14 ski bus. Les houches is a pretty village, few restaurants and bars, bakery, supermarket and tourist information.
Negatives about apartment- beginning is the access. Our transfer was delayed from the airport so we arrived very late. The instructions to find the keys were wrong and we tried phoning both the hosts numbers multiple times to no answer! Amazingly we did eventually get in but the hots never phoned back at all during our stay. To find the keys you need to go around to the back of the building and down into the underground car park. As you walk in the furthest right garage (lift the metal garage door) within that by the door you will find the key box. The owner will send you the code. She mentions something about a red door that's always open ( couldn't find a red door and all doors locked!).
